Doesn't the PSP have some really good best-of collections? That should be countable, IMO. I could see why someone would vote for that, especially if they don't have a PS1 or Saturn handy for the similar collections that came out on those platforms.

Agreed. PSP should not count for emulation. I will say it is the best overall handheld for retail released shmups. However, like Skykid said, it's no contender to the consoles that are on the table bar the godliness that is Dariusburst.

As for my votes. Damn, this is kind of tough. I know which have the more impressive selection. So do I go off that or do I based it off my personal experience? There is no question Saturn should be at the top of the list yet I haven't had the privilege to experience much if it. Hmmm, I think I put my experience now and consider an edit later.

Amazed by all the Dreamcast love. Had some good shmups but I never felt it was a 'shmup console' in the same way as the mega drive, for example.

Shouldn't a Japanese 60GB launch PS3 win this by default? Plays all PS1, PS2 and PS3 shmups. Is there any console that has access to more (not counting emulation on hacked consoles, in which case PS3 would also win)?

Which console has the largest number of console-exclusive shmups (=games that aren't arcade ports)? PCE?
Maybe a vote for the system with the best exclusives would make more sense.

Backwards compatibility should really come under the same category as emulation. I assumed this thread was asking for which console had the best shmup library. For example, I think its unfair to say donpachi is part of the ps3 library purely because its on ps1.

That begs the question why you really can't vote for pc (in regards to its native shmups such as doujin or indie titles).

Well, I said "a form of emulation". Obviously newer systems are better at it than 8/16 bit consoles where arcade "ports" often were more of a re-imagining.

1. PSX and PS2 games are just that - they're libraries of their respective consoles and not PS3 releases
2. You're talking console revision rather than the console in general, seems an incredibly specific excuse to get a boner for Sony

Is there much post-16 bit that wasn't an arcade port? Seems like an excuse to fawn over a few mediocre obscurities to me, because love for the obvious ones (Thunder Force IV, Eliminate Down, Blazing Lazers etc.) has been done already. Arcade ports are the real meat of console shmup libraries.
