It's my understanding that the Mame team will not include emulation on anything under 3(?) years old so as not to interfere with the sales of a paticular game. (I think this is why KOF '02 was removed a while back?).
Anyway, as we approach the end of 2005, what shmups do you think we might be able to emulate in the near future? Mame isn't the greatest for 3d games on most home PC's, so I'm wondering more about 2d shmups.

Bee Storm = Donpachi? THe sound in that game is terrible right now, so yeah I'd love to see that improved.Sly Cherry Chunks wrote:Radiant Silvergun and Gradius 4 will be playable soon.
Maybe Bee Storm will be emulated better?
I don't think my comp will handle Silvergun to well. Lucky I got me the Saturn Version!

What about Galuda/Ketsui?

and also, the sound of DonPachi is the same as the pcb of it, due to limitations on the hardware. (there is a topic not long ago about that too)

3 years is enough IMO. You'll never get rid of TEH ROMZ KIDZ!!!1Pingu wrote:I think they should increase it to five years or something instead, there are few things more anoying than all those rom kiddies (save the elitist pricks I suppose).

i can't wait until they get DDPII set up. sounds like a good bit of fun.
perhaps some of the "clone" games too, for curiosity's sake. there was a korean strikers clone that i can't remember the name of. i saw the cab once, but it was busted at the main screen (resulting in the worst case of burn-in i've ever seen).
perhaps if Ilmrm is reading, he can elaborate on the title.

That's what Mame is about IMO, getting to play the games you would never have gotten a chance to play in a million years. Even if it is just out of curiosity.captain ahar wrote:i can't wait until they get DDPII set up. sounds like a good bit of fun.

I'm off to play something called Gals Panic now.

I'm sure you are just joking here, but seriously, too many script kiddies simply see Mame as a way to play games for free, and not as a preservation tool. With this in mind, the mame team should really raise the bar to 10 years, as I don't see PCBs from 1995 to 2002 as being in danger of dying off anytime soon (barring CPS2 suicide boards).~Kid Icarus~ wrote:That's what Mame is about IMO, getting to play the games you would never have gotten a chance to play in a million years. I would never had discovered Donpachi/Progear if it were not for MAME and then I wouldn't have found this forum. If I could afford it, I'd get PCB's, I always try and get ports if I can. But seriously, MAME is great!
What I hate is the dicks selling teh romz on ebay.

EDIT: Reminds me, on a retro forum recently, I showed someone a link of the VTF-INO Ikaruga 2p Vid and someone asked if was emulated in MAME yet.

Dave is right here... and CPS2 is saved, but CPS3 is still a problem. How many copies of RED EARTH (the translated WARZARD) do you think are left alive now?Dave_K. wrote:I'm sure you are just joking here, but seriously, too many script kiddies simply see Mame as a way to play games for free, and not as a preservation tool. Horrible suggestion. This would mean no Cave games, no Strikers - Ouch! The best arcade shmups have been post-1995. BTW I have all the Cave ports available, but without mame I would not have been able to try Esprade, Dangun, Guwange, or Progear. Mame is great, and I don't feel guilty. It got me into shmups in the first place, like many others here.Dave_K. wrote:, the mame team should really raise the bar to 10 years, as I don't see PCBs from 1995 to 2002 as being in danger of dying off anytime soon (barring CPS2 suicide boards).
SHOOT IT QUICKLY !
I almost never use mame myself outside of evaluating a game for PCB purchase. But recently I've gained a new interest in Mame helping me practice shmups that I own via save-states, slow-down, and recording/replaying.iatneH wrote:Strange though, because I hardly find myself using MAME anymore, even for games for which I don't own a PCB....

Was trying to give an example of personality type of youthfull ignorance, who think hacking commercial games are a god given right and should be free. Sorry, probably a bad example since script kiddes are more generally ignorant hackers.Samudra wrote: What do "script kiddies" have to do with emulation?
I would like to see these shmups on MAME
Fire Barrel (Raiden2 clone very nice)
Double Wings(looks like a cool raiden clone)
Wyvern Wings(Strikers 1945 clone)
Strikers 1945 III
Heavy Barrel

but if youre playing those PCB's outside of japan, you'll be prosecutedtd to the full extent of the jam, right?Dave_K. wrote:I almost never use mame myself outside of evaluating a game for PCB purchase. actually, on a more serious note, I believe mame will become more and more broken now that the developers are trying to emulate everything with 100% accuracy as opposed to hacks and shortcuts to get a game working, such as using samples for speech synth generated sounds on some games.
regarding the rom kiddies.. and to be devil's advocate.
I think screaming stupidity about DC and saturn emulation is laughable, but when / if ketsui is released i'll be all over it..
why?
lets face it, it's pretty damn certain that it's never going to be released as a domestic game, so that leaves it in the realm as only available to the people that have enough money to spend crazy money on PCB's.
and even then, CAVE don't see a penny, it goes to the resellers, if you buy it NEW, unused, great.. congratulations, you've just bought something for a high price because it was intended to have a return from the players
putting money into it in an arcade..
cave saw the sales reports and demographics and decided to release X copies of the game, in the same way that a developer decideds it's not worth releasing "japanese game X" in the US, they make these decisions strategically and make a profit due to these decisions.
so, do you "bend the law" and illegaly use your PCB outside of japan, (a crime in itself, as it states on the copyright warnings) pay a reseller that got his copy from an arcade, that in turn paid in full for the PCB which in turn went to cave, and fulfilled their sales demographics as predicted, or play a game which has now served it's purpose as far as the developer is concerned, and is now merely zooming around the world in it's own fanboy stockmarket fashion, to be sold and resold, coveted and ebayed because its R@RE?
I fully support developer within sane means, I imported mushihimesama, and even bought the soundtrack, as I've done with a lot of games.
sometimes people do come across as a tad self righteous on here, because I can safely say that an extremely high percentage of you have illegal Mp3's DIVX's PS2/XBOX games and copied model kits.
I notice noones all over the hobbyfan.com threads on here (as they produce bootlegs) and nobody seems to complain when people get their "evaluation" copies of doujin games.. and hell these smaller doujin people need more support that any "larger" companies ever did!!
Are these excluded because they aren't shooters?
c'mon guys, don't be so self righteous about one aspect of piracy while rampantly doing another.. I know a lot of people regularly getting on teir high horses about this subject aren't exactly squeaky clean....

Well spoken, Pixelcorps.
That's exactly my opinion. I was going to write something like this but you safed me a lot of time since I'd need a lot of time to get this thoughts into English words.
I really hate reading crap like "Don't you feel guilty playing a Rom for free". The gaming industry got more than enough of my money and buying rare games on Ebay doesn't help the company in any way. Also, buying a PCB was never meant for home use. If some people on these forums have the money to do that, they can do that. But they should not lecture people who are not willing to pay lots of money for "the original arcade flair".
Mame is a great and it has already become a great library about the history of arcade games, even game magazines use Mame.

With KOF 2002 coming back and Ketsui being early 2003- I'd say we have that to look forward to once the decryption gets done. That one thread about someone wanting Border Down emulated- ROFL. BD would probably run 2 frames a second in MAME.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
