Pink Bullets Zine is finally here! (Pics Inside!)

Post by Pyongyang »

Hi everyone. I thought to start a new thread on this as the last one about pre-ordering got a bit 'grande' and I don't want to upset the good folks here looking for the latest information on the zine.

So, what's new?

Well, the zine is finished and is now PRINTED! The printer sent me some shots of the finished product this morning which I am sharing with you now. Only just seen them myself so it's all exclusive and new and shiny and stuff!

I have a parcel tracking number now and will be able to let you know once I have received them. I am hoping to get these bagged up and mailed out to YOU next week!

For now, here's a few shots (taken by the printer, not me) to whet your whistle! I hope you like it! :D

Looks great!! Potentially boring questions that may interest only me:

What print process was used? (litho, laser?)
How many colours? (cover looks like just 3 colours)
What kind of paper?
How many copies in the end?
Potential for a 2nd run depending on demand?
Totally digging that cover - who was the artist?
The biggest unanswered question is where is the money? [1CCS]

In answer to your questions:

1. Digital.
2. 4 Colour.
3. 300gsm gloss cover. 170gsm silk inner. Both sealed.
4. 405.
5. No. This run alone is driving me to an early grave!
6. Wil Overton.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Hope yopu all enjoy your copies when you get them! :)

No sorry, all 405 are allocated already. I might do a volume 2 if folks enjoy this one, but I won't reprint volume 1. Well, never say never but it is highly unlikely. Just doing this one alone has been, and still is, a highly stressful experience. I'm a one-man show though, a collaborative effort would be easier in some aspects. :)

Wow . . .a limited edition of 405. Collectors item to be sure.

It's a shame you couldn't get Wil Overton to sign and number them - now THAT would have been something

Looking forward to receiving - good work, mate.

Ian, I'm surprised that you went with a digital print. 500 pcs in offset shouldn't have been more expensive than 405 in digital - did you compare prices ??

Anyway, very much looking forward to it - great little project!

For reals? I would have said that offset was only cost effective at much higher print runs. I've been out of the industry for a while though.

Quick comparison on laser-line.de (big online print house):
400x 48 pages digital 4C= 1800 EUR. 500x 48 pages offset 4C = 1000 EUR (and 1000 pcs just 200 EUR more).

Yep, offset was more expensive with the quotes I got (it doesn't even begin to become affordable unless you are printing over 500 copies too). I had to go to the UK for a printer as its too expensive in Ireland.

I only ordered exactly how many were pre-ordered. That way they are all allocated and I'm not left with loads I can't sell as all the capital was from pre-orders anyway. Like I said, its a one-off, nonprofit project. Final total cost would cover absolutely everything. :)

Plus the thing with big print houses, at least from the many I contacted, was the lack of customer care. There was none. The samples were all shit as well. Horrible samples, and believe it or not, the paper quality wasn't up to par either. I went with a specialist who gave great before and after sales care. The bloke I spoke to even suggested a better paper to me than what I originally specified so it helps bring out the colour and photos better. They also did a run and ditched it because the guy manning the machine said it didn't look perfect... yet it looked amazing to me... So they redid it again!

Proper respect and treatment, which is what I wanted because I want this thing to be the best it can be! :)

It could have been done marginally cheaper, but the quality would have been shit and the logistics side was such a headache I'm still having nightmares over it now!

Like I said from the very beginning, I wouldn't commit to this unless I could deliver 100% and hopefully, when folks receive their copies, they will feel really happy with it too. After all, its down to all of you guys and YOUR hard-earned money and belief in this that the thing even went to print in the first place. :)

Yeah same here I didn't know it was a pre-order only thing.

My bad, it's not the end of the world, I'll just have to be quicker if another issue is made.

Whatever the case, THX for taking the time to do something for the English speaking shmup community. you and a handfull of guys are a rarity when most material is in Japanese and French.

Well, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a small margin of error where technical issues resulted in bounced 'zines and refunds, leaving Pyongyang with a few extra copies to sell to make up the loss. You two may be lucky! And by extension some other two may be unlucky. But oh well.

That said, looks amazing. Can't wait for my copy to arrive once you've sent them all out. :D
