It only seems like it'd be easy if you know how to score well to keep the extends coming in.

Yeah, it does suck about the Pink Sweets thing. If Pink Sweets 1.00 had the infinite lives, I'd actually play the game.

That really does suck if you get extends in the second loop of 1.00 on the port, even though I'd never try to get there myself. If it's limited to training, it's not a big deal, but if it happened in full runs, it's an issue. You could suicide all lives after your 6th/7th death depending on if you get the stage 3 extend or not and how many lives you had when you got it, and it'd be comparable, but you'd still get a few undeserved points.

Harahara mode even in 1.00 is supposed to give extra lives though, just the actual loop isn't. And since Zengeku and I don't really care for loops, neither of us would try it anyway. I know that as soon as I get a first loop 1cc in 1.01 for the looping achievement, I'll just start working on Harahara. Not sure whether I'd go for 1.01 or 1.00 Harahara though.

Holy shit. Sorry for bumping a two month old thread but I've only just seen this. Congrats to nimitz on his opening post for raising the bar when it comes to the highest amount of mental retardation ever contained in a single forum post.

I'd say you're wrong then, straight off the bat.
nimitz wrote:perhaps the best known example on the forum is sikraiken, he can pick up an arcade shmup considered though by most people and clear it on his very first credit.
Says who? sikraiken? Oh well it must be true then. I guess that means Cosmo Gang the Video is considered exceptionally tough by most people, or something...
nimitz wrote:All the players who have cleared multiple touhous on Lunatic and ended up coming here in search for more shmups to clear have been obliterating our high score tables.
Most definitely wrong.

The simple reason why TiH tend to be amongst the higher placed scores is because they actively play these games with a view to doing so. Unlike 95% of the forum who prefer to spend their time debating and/or bitching/whining about these games, they actually play them. Competently.
nimitz wrote:With touhou games (played on lunatic) it seems to take around a year to reach that level of "shmup mastery", while it might take 2-3 years if you are playing "standard" Arcade shmups.
Hmm, well I can see that you've at least done your research. I'd wager you spent a good 30 seconds of deliberation before you pulled those figures out of your arse.
nimitz wrote:but the fact remains, touhou (on lunatic) makes you better at shmups quicker than any other game out there.
That's a fact is it? A fact. You then go on to say:
nimitz wrote:(Keep in mind this is still a theory and has not been thoroughly tested)
Yet you've already stated that Touhou Lunatic will make you improve faster than any other game as fact.

Jesus fucking Christ. Never has a whatamireading.jpg seemed more apt.

So tell me, how many Lunatic clears does abschüssig have? What about x91? Or Gus? ben.shinobi? Prometheus? Mills?

The fact is that the best players on this site have likely never even touched a Touhou. The main reason why TiH (and other Touhou players) have made an impact is simply because the overall standard of play on here — when taking the majority into account — is still rather low.

Some people regard missing an opportunity to make an ass of themselves as a good thing.
