Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Hello everybody new member I've ordered an XRGB-3 I'm a total newbie and when I heard about the XRGB-3 and how well Super Nintendo games look with it on HDTV I got so excited I cant wait for it to arrive
I think I'm covered on SNES side of using XRGB-3
(Super Famicom Modded and Slot Widened &Modded for USA games & Official Super Famicom RGB cable)
What's the best way to connect an NTSC USA PS2 to XRGB-3 my HDTV has no VGA/DVI input and I'm from the UK is it possible to get quality image on TV I heard you can get amazing quality using a Moniter with XRGB-3 what leads do I need to do this including getting sound as well
Or should I invest in a DVDO Edge Green Scaler for PS2
I'm a newbie and only just recently learnt that XRGB-3 or video scalers so an help would be greatly appreciated Thank you for your time

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
To choose a XRGB-3 to use with a HDTV LCD set is actually quite bold. The Mini would have been the better choice.
Especially since your TV does not have a VGA input, you cannot even use the scanline mode on the XRGB-3. And 480i processing (from a PS2) is pretty bad in the XRGB-3's scaling mode.
The only thing you can do without further equipment is to use a DVI to HDMI cable for video and hope that your TV will be able to sync to one of the higher resolutions. For audio you need a HDMI input on your TV which supports secondery audio through a line or cinch input. Then use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable for audio.
If you decide for a DVDO Edge (for any reason), don't get the GREEN one, but the old one.
You could chain the XRGB-3 to a DVDO Edge for pretty good results, but still that's more expensive than getting a XRGB-Mini in the first place.

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Hi Fudoh many thanks for the speedy reply. Dang
that was expensive il see if I can change my order they haven't shipped yet. Apart from the VGA and the fact that its smaller is their any other as advantage of having the mini over the xrgb3 do they both do the same job for 280p that's what I'm gonna use it for mainly really 8 Bit and 16 Bit Consoles .
Also you mentioned the DVD0. What's bad a out the DVD0 edge green is it good for recent generation consoles e.g PS2 Wii & Xbox
will the DVDO edge the older model you mentioned and recoomended do just as good a job for ps2 on its own or through chaining with the xrgb3 Thank you again

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Just had a look The Back of my TV (I have a Samsung ES8000) series 8
And it's looks promising it actually says HDMI in 1 (DVI) and just under just under it there's a socket titled DVI audio IN
So a HDMI - DVI adapter can get one from amazon easily
And for the DVI audio in Lead could you go give me the exact name of the lead I need cheers

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
it depends on what look you're aiming at. If you want high-resolution upscaling ("emulated look") then the XRGB-3 through HDMI is fine, but if you want "scanlined CRT look", then you've chosen the wrong unit (with your TV set).what I'm gonna use it for mainly really 8 Bit and 16 Bit Consoles .
Green and original Edge are the the same, but the Green won't work with classic systems. Also you mentioned the DVD0. What's bad a out the DVD0 edge green is it good for recent generation consoles e.g PS2 Wii & Xbox

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
So if my TV allows for a proper signal with HDMI to DVI in I can get scanlne CRT emulation is this correct ? I assume the framemeister mini allows for Scanline emulation through RGB Scart without VGA or DVI is this also correct . Final questions I promise thanks again
Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
no you can't. The XRGB-3 has two operating modes:So if my TV allows for a proper signal with HDMI to DVI in I can get scanlne CRT emulation is this correct ?
B0: upscaling, NO scanlines, DVI output
B1: lindedoubling, scanlines, VGA output ONLY!
The Mini has 720p HDMI output with scanlines for all sources.I assume the framemeister mini allows for Scanline emulation through RGB Scart without VGA or DVI is this also correct

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
I apologise if this is a stupid question. But if a TV doesn'nt have VGA connection
Can I use a HDMI- VGA or a HDMI - DVI adapter chained with a DVI- VGA adapter for use with the XRGB3 to allow B1 Scanline mode for those who don't have a VGA socket on their TV's
Would any two of these methods works

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
No, adapters don't work. You would need a dedicated A/D converter or scaler, for example a Gefen VGA to DVI Scaler Plus.

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Correct me if I'm wrong but B0 mode works through VGA and DVI out, but B1 mode only works through VGA out right?
Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Short answer is yes. Take a look over this page:

specifically, http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/XRGB ... DVI_output

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Ok so I tried DVI B0 Mode on my HDTV using HDMI>DVI adapter with the SNES Speedwise it's perfect. I am somewhat dissapointed in the picture quality very very pixelated a lot more than PS2. I was playing Donkey Kong Country, when you play an actual level it's not so bad. But man the map screen where you select a level looks really ugly
{Possibly my expecations were too high)
I've heard B1 VGA has Linedoubbling mode what does this do for the picture? Is is still pixelated like hell?
Thanks in Advance

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
The point in using a XRGB for upscaling is to get a picture as pixelated as possible, isn't it ?
B1 is much less pixelated.
B1 is much less pixelated.

Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
Hi Fudoh it is the point but in some games it looks really bad e.g Donkey Kong Country Games on SNES however with a game like Super Mario Kart or Zelda Link To The Past it's looks nice kinda adds more appeal to the game. I just wish there was a smoothing option . How much less pixelation percent wise would you say there was in B1 Mode? Thanks again
Re: Hello All New Member :) Q's About XRGB-3?
that depends on your display. By adding scanlines in B1 mode you achieve a much smoother look. One of the reasons why low-res games in the arcade look so much smoother than 320x200 VGA games running on a PC monitor.
