This is so stupid, they are taking advantage of all the hypery about the box and SDOJ to release this thing.
Not liking the idea.

Well, better late than never
Is this coming out in Japan alone or will it be a world-wide release?

will probably stay in japan but you can probably play it, since 99% of the PS3 catalogue is region free.Ruldra wrote:Well, better late than never![]()

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Nice!
After having 2 360s crap out on me I finally decided to just stick with a PS3 this generation, so I assumed I wouldn't get much in terms of console shmups.
This is awesome.

The Xbox 360 port is indeed one of the best, but if I do rememeber well that is because Mihara helped them out, so as he did for the DOJ EX pacth, something that we can't be sure this time around.StarCreator wrote:The 360 Ketsui port is one of the best Cave ports on the platform. If 5PB are as lazy as ever, wouldn't be surprised to see a washed out one. Just let's wait and see.
Anyway, who knows they might have learned since then.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. A region free 360 version sounds like a less risky cash-in.
I'll hold off until I hear how it plays and if it is region locked. I've seen quite a few PS3 ports get botched.

Didn't a massive patch come out a whole year after release and made everything near-perfect? I'd really like if anyone knowledgeable can set the record straight. I'd assume that ketsui PS3 is at least as good as the 360 version.Phellan Wolf wrote:The Xbox 360 port is indeed one of the best, but if I do rememeber well that is because Mihara helped them out, so as he did for the DOJ EX pacth, something that we can't be sure this time around.StarCreator wrote:The 360 Ketsui port is one of the best Cave ports on the platform. Also does anyone think that Sony will "force" 5pb to add something new like a widescreen mode?

Let me check my calender- hmm, not April 1st. Wow, that was unpexpected. I already own the LE for 360, but I think I'll double-dip: I have a Sega Saturn USB pad, which happens to be compatible with PS3.
It does make sense when you take into consideration the percentage of people who own a PS3 in Japan. Which is where 5pb intends to sell the game.MauJustice wrote:Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. A region free 360 version sounds like a less risky cash-in.

Seeing as this generation is soon to be replaced by a new one (PS4 coming at the end of the year), it might be the case that Sony has "relaxed" their restraints on 2D retail games.

Or maybe it was all a shmups-forum rumor? I have never seen any proof for this claim. It is well known that Sony of America wasn't a big fan of 2D games during the PS1-era, but that was 17 years ago...Kollision wrote:Seeing as this generation is soon to be replaced by a new one (PS4 coming at the end of the year), it might be the case that Sony has "relaxed" their restraints on 2D retail games.

Ketsui is indeed a great port, and Dodonpachi BLEX is great with the patch. Still some massive load times to start DOJ, but once you're in, you're in.denpanosekai wrote:Didn't a massive patch come out a whole year after release and made everything near-perfect? But what Phellan Wolf was saying was that 5pb got help from Mihara on both the port of Ketsui and the patch for DOJ (whose code was ripped fromt he PS2 version of DOJ anyhow). So it casts into doubt whether 5PB can do a good port to the PS3, although I would certainly hope that they have the skills, considering they coded Bullet Soul themselves.

How many of those people who own a PS3 and are interested in shmups don't also own an Xbox? It must be an incredibly small number.Friendly wrote:Let me check my calender- hmm, not April 1st. I think it would be similar to asking "how many people in US/PAL territories love these games but don't own a J360?"
Which, judging from these boards, is probably a decent amount.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
The answer to your question is still "not many people" even if you were to propose that a good percentage of people on here don't have a J-360, that's still an almost insignificant number of people in the grand scheme of things; certainly not much of a market to pitch your product at.Special World wrote:I think it would be similar to asking "how many people in US/PAL territories love these games but don't own a J360?"

Picking up a 360 in japan is far less effort and expense than it is for those outside Japan, and seeing as the channels do exist to get them sent over, it must be the expense is the primary reason those outside Japan who like these games don't have a J-360. That's why I'd suggest that the majority of people in japan who are into shmups will probably already own this and a 360.
I know Ketsui was meant to be released on the PS2 god-knows how many years ago, and I'm fairly sure that a lot of the game was coded. I wonder how much of that code can be salvaged for this port? wonder if that's actually the reason that it's specifically Ketsui getting the release.

It's not going to be based on the ps2 port, that was done by arika not 5pb. This won't likely be anymore more then a straight xbox 360 to ps3 port.

How's that relevant to a Japanese publisher deciding to port a game?DrTrouserPlank wrote:something about how it makes sense to import region-locked consoles from half-way around the globe
In Japan PS3 outnumbers 360 almost 9:1. Apparently 5pg thinks that among the 9 million Japanese PS3 owners there are a few who might be interested in Ketsui and have no 360. The end.

I guess that's true when you consider that the entire shooting game community consists of twenty people. But I was saying proportionally. I can imagine a lot of people (proportionally) who really enjoy shooters wouldn't want to or couldn't afford to buy a console specifically to play them.DrTrouserPlank wrote:The answer to your question is still "not many people" even if you were to propose that a good percentage of people on here don't have a J-360, that's still an almost insignificant number of people in the grand scheme of things; certainly not much of a market to pitch your product at.Special World wrote:I think it would be similar to asking "how many people in US/PAL territories love these games but don't own a J360?"

This will need something really special to get me to double-dip. But still, good news for PS3 owners. Anything that brings Ketsui to more people is a good thing.

Yup, instant preorder. Unless its a SEN title, then ofc instant buy the day it comes online.
What were the xbox limited edition goodies?
Actually, what was the xbox port like? HD graphics and arrange modes?
I kinda wish they'd add a visual hitbox to the player ship, the games feel instantly better and more modern with it.

Xbox port had non-HD graphics and an X Mode that's a lot better than a typical Cave arrange. I would place it above any Cave arrange except Pink Sweets, as long as we're discounting stuff like Espgaluda II Black / Akai Shin / Deathsmiles IIX. It's kinda like Ketsui with tons of bullet cancel chips.Pallerå wrote:Yup, instant preorder. Unless its a SEN title, then ofc instant buy the day it comes online.

The 360 LE included a 2 CD set that had the complete arrange tracks for both DOJ BLEX and Ketsui Arrange.Special World wrote:I think the LE just had a soundtrack CD bundled with it.Pallerå wrote:What were the xbox limited edition goodies?

And actually, this really isn't too surprising, 5pb have been steadily porting 360 'exclusives' to the PS3 (stuff like Steins;Gate), so it follows that anything they can convert easily from one console to the other would get a release (they probably retained distro rights to the game for a couple of years after the initial 360 release in case they wanted to do a budget re-release).

I'm pretty much on the same boat. I think I've double-dipped on too many 360 -> PS3 ports this gen. Most of the bonuses weren't even worthwhile either... From the games that even had any bonuses. >_> I'd probably do it if there was a Best Price release later on though. In any case, I hope people on the PS3 side do check it out.Jeneki wrote:This will need something really special to get me to double-dip.
I could also see them porting over Bullet Soul later on, if Ketsui does well enough.

Double di... what the hell are you guys even contemplating, buying the same game twice?!
If you already own it for 360 and want to burn your cash, PM me and I'll send you my address. I'll grab a lighter and make sure to set fire to it soon as it reaches me.
This is for people who don't have the game, either because they have no J360 or no Xbox full stop. Anyone in this situation should have this day one. It's Ketsui, it's absolutely incredible, and assuming it will be a carbon port of the 360, arrange mode is heavenly too - one of the best of the bunch.

Well realistically I really won't do it, because by the time it's out I'd be playing something else instead.
I only really double dipped like, 3 times during the gen (which is 3 times still too many). Every time it was a case of the PS3 having extras though. Which doesn't seem to be the case here anyways (I'm also assuming it's just a carbon copy port).

Well, I bought limited edition copies of each of Cave's console releases. So if I won't buy this, it'll be my only missing LE. Also, Sega Saturn USB pad! And region free (presumably), which means it will be playable on *any* PS3 for years to come. I suppose Cave gets some royalties, too. Yes, it's a bit crazy but I could think of worse games to own twice.Skykid wrote:Double di...

I think this argument is ready for retirement, and I've made it myself. It's time to accept the fact that some people will buy Cave games for any cost just for the cardboard and paper. They are the best games ever made so they bring out the insanity in people. Time to just accept it.Skykid wrote:Double di... what the hell are you guys even contemplating, buying the same game twice?!![]()
