Is Ketsui Death Label for the DS worth the expensive price?
I'm interested in this game, mostly because (AFIK) Ketsui on the XBOX 360 is region-locked, and I certainly don't have the money for a Japanese XBOX 360. But Ketsui on the DS isn't exactly cheap, at least on Ebay, and I know it's not the full game, so is it worth it?

Well it is the best shmup on the DS, but it's just a boss rush game. It's quite fun, but the whole Ketsui is alot better.

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for the DS worth the expensive pri
^^ exactly what he said. I had some fun with it, but it's definitely nowhere near as good as ketsui: kizuna jigoku tachi being that it's merely a boss rush mode.

Ketsui 360 has weird pricing right now; I see it in the $30 range on Amazon all the time, so it makes the DS version look even more overpriced.
Do all copies of the DS version come with the DVD, or was that a limited edition thing? Looking on ebay now, it seems strange you can get complete sets for less money than auctions that don't specify they come with the DVD.

X360 version tate'd, plus SLG3000 = SEX!
I found the DS version a real pain for 2 reasons: 1/ It's Ketsui "Light" - just a boss rush, & 2/ More importantly, the bloody screen/controls are too small. For me, finger cramps & eye rape do not make an enjoyable stg experience!
(Though I would want to get my hands on the superplay DVD, that was originally included with the DS version.)

This. Fun game, way too small screen to shmup on. It's a paiiiiin.xavierjesus wrote: I found the DS version a real pain for 2 reasons: 1/ It's Ketsui "Light" - just a boss rush, & 2/ More importantly, the bloody screen/controls are too small.

It's great fun. Have not seen how much it is on e-bay. I didn't have a problem with the screen size or the controls and I'd say I have normal sized hands.

You'd think that on the country it originated from, the price would be much lower.
That isn't the case here.
The X360 ones are at a lower price.

It was not worth what I paid for it, but it's fun anyway so my mistake stings less.
Only buy it if you travel a lot and are desperate for a shmup on the go. If you were planning to play at home, you can buy "Shoot the Bullet" and "Double Spoiler" from Rancor for a similar gameplay experience at a fraction of the price.
Also bear in mind that KDL isn't a direct port. The original bosses were designed to be played in TATE, KDL is the closest approximation of these bosses they could get in vertizontal.
Finally, you've gotta play for the no-miss, because every time you play a round, your number of lives increases by 1 (can't disable) until you're rocking 20 lives every time.

Knights in the Nightmare. A stylus-controlled mix between a shmup, tower defense, and football management. Beautiful Suspiria-esque graphics, and the projectiles get bullet hellish in the later boss battles. The most unique fun game on the DS, IMO.railslave wrote:There realy isnt anything else like it on the nds, as far as i know (please please please correct me! ).

I'm seriously confused why they're bothering to port a game to ps3 this late in it's life.

If a game is good, it's either worth the expensive price, or worth fighting to bring that price down.
I really wish this hadn't been tied to Ketsui. No, it's not unlikely that more people would play it.

Late or not, it might benefit them somehow, earning profit from the PS3 crowd, and somehow I believe it might be the same port as the X360 one, with same type of menus, loading screens, leaderboard structure and trophy(achievement) set.AntiFritz wrote:I'm seriously confused why they're bothering to port a game to ps3 this late in it's life.

I don't think its worth spending too much money on it, Maybe if you're a really hard collector but remember that re-buying older stuff doesn't particularly helps Cave. Anyways, The game is good, Best DS shmup, But not worth more than stock price unless you really care about the superplay

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for the DS worth the expensive pri
I don't have a PS3 yet; I'd love to get one of the new super-slim PS3's, but the only ones I can find that are new are bundled with games. That's not what I'm looking for; just a new one by itself, so I'd have more money to get some used PS3 games for it.
At any rate, I really think it's dumb that Cave made Ketsui for the XBOX 360 region-protected; they probably would have sold a lot more by now, had they not done so. Unless it's more expensive for a game developer, or any company, for that matter, to have DVDs made that way.

I'd more inclined to go with this. Ketsui is finally what got me to upgrade to an XL. It's the main game I keep in my DS. There are few games I enjoy more on the system (and I'm a huge portable gamer). I have Space Invaders Extreme 1 & 2 and no, I'll take Ketsui DL any day.
Retro Game Challenge does have Star Prince which is an excellent Star Soldier clone.

As someone who is primarily a portable gamer who also loves STGs, this game was a day 1 pre-order. But in all honesty, I can't see paying as much as the game goes for on ebay today. I mean you can get Radiant Silvergun for less! Definitely watch some YT videos of it, I know SFKhoa has a few good ones; if it's something you can dive into then get on it!

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for the DS worth the expensive pri
I was entirely underwhelmed both graphically and with gameplay in regard to Death Label. It should not in any way be contrasted vs. Ketsui Arcade or the 360 port.
There really aren't any amazing shooters for DS, but i'd certainly take Nanostray 1 over Death Label. Nanostray 2 is also more enjoyable, but I preferred the first.
If you're a collector, I imagine it may hold some value long-term.

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for the DS worth the expensive pri
Back in the day when Gaijin Punch had a thread for pre-orders for the NDS Ketsui DL set, it was a no-brainer to get one through him. Sure, the accompanying Ketsui superplay DVD is just extra icing on the cake if you will, is just a nifty little bonus. However, it's locked as a Region 2 DVD (but can be re-burned as a region-free DVD-R if it needed be to play on a region 1 DVD player...easy as pie.
It's recommended to play Ketsui DL on a DSi LL or DSi XL setup with the bigger LCD screen setup (which comes in handy when playing a serious session, indeed). Up to three slots are available to save your best superplays for posterity to review/show others at your leisure. How cool is that?
As for the Taito NDS releases of Space Invaders Extreme 1 & it's SIE 2 sequel, an optional DS Taito paddle controller is necessary to get better/higher scores rather than using the ol' standard d-pad of such a DS Lite setup. The paddle controller came in several colors: white, black, silver & pink varieties to mix 'n' match with your NDS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, etc. variant handhelds.

On the option screen, there's a listing to select paddle setup or not. It truly enhances the overall SIE-1 & SIE-2 gaming experience. Same could be said with the DS Arkanoid & DS Space Puzzle Bobble titles with DS paddle controller as well.BrianC wrote:The paddle is optional, and afaik, not available in all modes? My apologies, the DS paddle was compatible only with the orignal DS and DS Lite (with GBA slot support).
