Indoor gardening

Post by CStarFlare »

I'm curious if anyone here has ever tried to grow anything substantial indoors. I've been wanting to start a garden for about a year now, but my unwillingness to commit to my current city has left me living an apartment instead of a house with a yard. Since spring is coming up I've started getting the itch again, and would like to make something happen this year.

I'm sure small things like herbs would grow fine on my windowsill, but I'd like to do some veggies - spinach and brussels spouts are big things in my kitchen, and I'm sure I could find something to do with tomatoes and zucchinis and whatever else. Not sure how much room those things need to grow, though, and I worry that I'll plant something that needs a lot of direct sunlight and/or fresh air. I'm interested in hearing if anyone has experience with this - any pitfalls I should watch out for, stuff that I shouldn't even try to grow, etc.

Or just general gardening discussion. I like reading about it all even if I can't do it yet.

I wish I could have a fruit tree.

So, just to clarify, we are talking about fruit 'n veg here?

I mean, zucchini aint' a euphemism for, you know, hydro Snoop Lion material?

Or, is it?

grew "bananas" for like 10 year indoors using several methods from standard pots to hydroponics.
lot of electricity needed for my field but it was worth it.
can´t speak about veggies or fruits I guess I would do it onlz with sunlight cause electricity is expensive and not green.

ps:obv not bananas

haha, yeah I hear ya!

In the last couple of months here, we've had (all indoors) - Mazar Il Sharif, AK47 & Cheese. All expertly finished may I add! ;-)

Medical grade bananas for teh win son! ;-)

Also, surprisingly enough being 55degrees north of the equator, we've pulled of an Afghan/Kush cross outdoors! (Well, in a greenhouse, from April-October.) Surprisingly good.

Surprisingly good bananas obviously.

I'll be interested in seeing how this thread pans out now.
