Ah. Yes I was not aware of his posting history. I thought you all were referring to a history of trolling or something like that. I don't know what to say about that because you obviously have to toe a fine line between taking it seriously enough not to encourage people, but at the same time letting them know it's not appreciated. I guess that's what you guys were referring to.

Mesh is obviously a manic depressive; but at the same time he has been posting about killing himself here for like 5 years. If he is that unhappy, he needs to get help, as it's fairly obvious at this point he isn't able to help himself.

While this type of advise is probably better suited to a PM, the fact that he throws this stuff around the forum all the time, I think it suits to post responses for all to see. My hope is that one day I will say something, or somebody(anybody!) will say something, and he finally stops and realizes what he has to do to fix things.

Much like my stance on racist/hate speech on the forums; you can just sit back and say nothing, or you can speak out and hopefully change somebodies way of thinking for the better, or at least present a different opinion that might make them re-think their own. Just because the interwebz is some huge anonymous place doesn't mean we need to lose our common decency or concern for others well being.

I myself am bipolar (on medication though, so it isn't a problem anymore), so I can kinda understand the state of mind he might be in. When you're in that state of mind, you're like a completely different person. When I was in such a state (although I was never the suicidal type), I would often turn to the online communities I went to for support, but at the same time, I only kept to the communities I felt close to, to avoid someone saying something stupid. I can only say that I hope the condition isn't too severe, and that you get help like I did. Although I was already going to a pretty good doctor at the time...

Anyway, as for Prejudice on Shmupsforum, I haven't really seen much of anything yet, but that might be because I'm fairly new. (and I haven't read the whole topic, lol)

Existentialism is great in your early twenties. Anything past that and it's just depressing. Maybe go more for the Nietzsche brand instead.

This is a damn complicated topic, but one fact remains.

Sincere, ironic or 'silly'; this forum isn't a place for prejudice. I hate the idea of this niche of ours being racist, homophobic, sexist or anything like that, because we shouldn't be part of spreading or normalising that crap.

And it doesn't matter if something doesn't offend each of us as individuals; the fact is this forum is open to everybody, and should be welcoming to everybody, without prejudice. (And the more variety of people we have here, the better the discussion and community will be, so why ostracise any group or person before we've given them a chance? The more welcoming we are, the more we all get out of the forum).

I admit I can be purile and profane here and everywhere else, and I adore toilet humour, but I'd stop in a second if it were making somebody feel shitty about who they are.

And, frankly, if you think it's cool to make people feel shitty about what they are, then there's plenty of other places on the internet (though I'd rather you stayed away from them too, or just learned not to be prejudice).

Fortunately, most people here are progressively minded and friendly, and can be funny or join debates without needing to scrape prejudice from the bottom of the barrel!

EDIT: An extra thought. It is good we talk about prejudice on the forum. Keeping an eye on it and debating it is healthy. Being prejudice is a different matter (though I accept it's easy to have prejudices without realising. A liberal wimp like me could certainly have some lurking somewhere).
