I beat the TTLB in DoTonPachi Maximum!

... But not in a full run of the game. And I had to use the one extra credit the game gives you. >_>

Okay. So, I've had a 3 day stretch of actually playing shooters. Miss it. Feels good. Started playing Gunbird2 because I heard it was sweet. Anyway, I unlocked this secret character called Aine after seeing a pretty good superplay used with him. This game is so addictive (Played it a while ago, but I definitely changed my mind on this title). You can play credit after credit and it never gets stale because of the level switch up. Also, doing the short ranged attack on the big characters is incredibly satisfying for some reason. In any case, the game is REALLY, REALLY hard and basically, you can be tapping along left or right to avoid bullets and somehow the enemy will shoot a bullet right in front of your path so you basically run into it, which can seem like it comes out of nowhere.

ANYWAY, I got to 1-5 a few times today and that felt pretty awesome considering that I can't consistently survive up to 1-4 without dying. If anyone has tips on this game, please enlighten or direct me to other threads. Congrats everyone on killing it in their respective titles.

Here's a very good survival run with Tavia. Shows aggressive play that helps to by-pass some of the difficult patterns.

I just got 1-ALL in DODONPACHI DAIOUJOU BLACK LABEL <3

Man this feels so good, for me this is the first clear in which I had to actually dodge things instead of just bombing the hard places. I think I had an mild epilepsy attack during the last part of the 5th stage and the boss, but still managed to work the boss even thought my eye sight was fucked up. I have no idea how long it took for me to reach the victory as obviously PCB´s don´t show time like mame, but I think it must be 20-30 hours or maybe more.

Aine is very hard to play as since none of his attacks have any spread. I'd recommend Tavia or Alucard.

So in six months of playing Futari on and off, I've never managed the clear on BL original, so I started to mess around with other modes over the last week. I hit ST4 boss on Maniac, and made ST3 boss on God today. I've had maybe a half dozen credits on Maniac, and never tried God because I presumed it was way too much for me. So why the fuck can't I clear original. FUCK.

Mushihime-sama Maniac 1CC. Yeah!

No autofire, terrible scoring. Quick and dirty for the most part-- I'd guess less than five hours of practice. But it was definitely a very fun clear. If I can get my head around the scoring mechanics I might give this a serious look.

First 1CC of the year. OK, it was only Sonic Wings 3, but they all count. :)

After I cleared it, I decided I wanted a screenshot of the end sequence, so I thought I'd just play through again and credit-feed to the end to get the pic, but I ended up clearing it twice in a row... Took the same path each time, finishing on Mars. Got the normal end boss the first time and the (really easy) comedy end boss the 2nd time. Made it to 2-1 the first time and 2-4 the 2nd time.

Hey Marc, you can't clear BL original because you probably cannot play NOT for score at all. :P

Really, try keeping your counter really low, keep those gems AWAY from you, don't kill enemies up close and bomb when necessary.

It's almost incredible how easy mushi futari BL original is to clear if you play it this way.

And watch the 1cc video from "frogs play it easy".

Believe me: You'll clear it almost imediately like this.

2 March 2013 i get my first 1CC ever, Batsugun Special Version.

Yep, it´s small potatoes, first loop only (reached Jupiter on second loop) but for me even this was unthinkable some months ago. Avoiding suicide bullets for the first time in my life was awesome  It also came quite out of the blue, after a couple months of stepping down on shooters i reach the last boss in my first credit, and get the clear in the second. And i feel the hiatus has somehow improved my skill if that makes any sense.

Now to think about my next objective.

Getting sidetracked oh noes

SATAZIUS 1CC on Normal. A clear long overdue largely because I came close to doing it several months back but I rage quit after my run was ruined by 3 deaths in a row on the final boss. I didn't pick it up again until recently.

Finished SDF Macross(Saturn).

Breathtaking game. Audio visual masterpiece. The music, the in-game visuals, how it tied to the animation, just wonderful.

GJ now go for unlimited clear. If you use the type Z ship is not that difficult: lots of extends plus the break mode fills very quickly.

Just beat Batsugun training course the other day, don't know if it really counts but it's still my first 1cc (apart from some toehoes on easy and LLS on normal).

AUTO-BOMBAAAAAAAA

edit: sorry, meant to say Batrider.

I don't think that Batsgun has an autobomb option.
Did you mean Battle Bakraid or Batrider?

EDIT: Or a training mode for that matter. Am I wrong? Usually when I point out stuff like this I'm dead wrong.

Yeah, whoops, meant to say Batrider. I've also been playing a lot of Batsugun lately so that's probably where the confusion came from.

DODONPACHI 1-ALL

Only took me few plays after receiving the PCB to beat this. Year ago I remember watching the French shmup documentary and the JAP guy glorifying the feeling of first time beating DDP, and thinking I can never do this, now it is clear to me that he must have ment 2-All clear of this game as 1-ALL does not require any special dodging skills or even memorization, sadly.

you need to memorize some things, specially on the later stages (big enemies that need to be taken down quickly)

Or you can just bomb them, that is the problem with the game, it gives you too many bombs to advance.

You're just example of someone who has built up much stronger fundamental skills then some of us. For me, 1cc'ing up to stage 5 for the first time was hugely satisfying. And believe me, at my level of skill I don't see the bombs as too generous lol.

well... I tend to try and learn enemy placement to go through the game without having to bomb. Playing a game without bombs makes it look as cool as possible.

The only places I purposefully bomb are on bosses, specially the 4th boss, first phase; some attacks of the 5th boss and the 6th boss final pattern.

anyway, GJ on the 1-ALL... learning bee placements is just the next step.

Obviously one tries to survive without too much bombing for the sake of the excitement that you get from the game by doing so. However if you are going for the 1cc if you bomb once or twice more in some places you were not expecting you would have to is a lot better than dying there and not getting the clear. You can always play later more and try to do better and go for the cool run.

What do you think which is easier to do to reach the 2nd loop, collect all the bees or get the hit count required?
