Best Home Console for Shmups

Post by MrOldSchoolCool »

This doesn't include portables. This doesn't include PC or Backwards Compatibility (BC). This doesn't include titles available via hacking or whatever. I apologize if your favorite system isn't on the list. I know they'll be at least one guy screaming about the Wonderswan or something.

Take the poll for what it's worth.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts.

I'm not sure why the poll isn't working.

The poll is...well, I don't know what harm it can do, but take a look at the discussion already started here please.

VCS? Fo' serious? That's got, what, Ray's Revenge, Space Invaders, River Raid, Bomber Raid, a few others? Raid on Bungeling Bay (on the C64; I don't really see the purpose of the whole consoles / computers division, especially for cartridge computers) is probably not quite as notable as these but also probably not much less fun. There's probably better stuff on the successor machines (but still not much to choose from, except in cases of "consolized" computers with a large software base).

People are going to pick at the other choices too - skipping generations between the Sony and Microsoft consoles (no Xbox and no PS3). Most importantly, there's no Neo Geo on this list.

"Best" is a question which I prefer not to consider, and don't think needs to be asked. Your living space can hold more than one system, right?

It should be "your favorite home console for shmups"

I keep trying to say super nes but it gives me an invalid form submitted error.

Anyone picking anything else than X360 is an old fart anyway.

Polls are still broken.
Any reasonable choice for #1 is either X360 or PS2 anyway, the only excuse is if your waifu game has its best or only port on another console.
I would pick X360 just because it's still getting ports and new games.

Also the front Shmup discussion page already has the same thread, it's just not a Poll.

Even though I barely touch it anymore Cotton Boomerang was pretty much the only reason I needed to pick up a Saturn, so my vote goes to that console. I only have like, 3 non STGs for it too.

Tough one, because my all time fave is on Dreamcast, but for a wider spread, and the platform that really got me into the genre hard, it has to be Saturn.

Long live SEGA!

Toss up between the Saturn, 360, and Genesis for me.
