The basic summary is that you need a slave ship to start getting medals to circle you, then you let medals circle and combine until they form a giant golden eagle which you then collect, and then you reveal eight (i think?) medals at the same time, and they'll burst into super valuable medals. You want to try and collect these before more are revealed, as they only rise in value once you've collected all the medals onscreen.

I wouldn't worry too much about micluses and fairies until you have the basics down. The first miclus is pretty handy, though.
