Cheapo eBay PS3/PS2 to 360 adapter

Anyone used one of these before? I'd want to use it to connect a Namco stick to my 360.

At $7, I figure it's hard to lose?

I have this adapter and it works well with ps2 controller pcb and cheap pc/ps2 pcb, not lag at all.

I also have a Namco arcade stick but i changed the psx pcb for a ps2 pcb so i cant tell you if the original psx pcb would work.

Regards.

Isn't that the one that needs a genuine 360 controller hooked up to it to work on a 360? I have this one:

Shmuppy: I never tried that converter, but I do have this one here:

http://www.superufo.com/review_html/How_to_use_PS2_PS3_controller_on_xBox_360.html

It has a chip on it so that itw detected as a native Xbox controller (probably similar to the one you are looking at).

Anyways I can confirm it works great. I used it, lag free, on my ps1 pcb custom sanwa stick. I dont use it anymore because I don't play fighters on the X360. If you want it, it's yours but I don't know what a reasonable price is for it. I don't see it around much anymore.

Still can't find any info on my x360 adapter I mentioned but I found the same one you saw on eBay and, yeah, it requires a wired x360 controller to be connected in order to work (its needed to access the verification chip on the controller to be seen by the x360 as a genuine controller). The one I have doesn't need that.

What generation pcb does your namco stick use. PS2? I have some controllers here that I can run tests for you, but I don't have that exact stick, though possibly one it's a similar generation pcb.

It's a stock Namco stick (well except for the DB15 connector), so it's a PS1-era PCB in it.

I don't mind if I need a wired controller plugged in, I have one of those I use on my PC so no big deal, but obviously it's more convenient to not require it.

One thing I'm concerned about is the button mapping, and I can bet none of these adapters allow for any kind of remapping, which is why I've been eyeing a Cronus, but they're a bit expensive (but do a lot of other things). But maybe this gives me an excuse to get one :wink:

Oh obviously the PS2 controller wouldn't work with the Cronus, but I have a customer stick with an MC Cthulhu in it as well that would work.

shrugs for $7 I kind of want to mess with the cheap adapter lol

You mean in game mapping? I don't see why not. I've nver had a problem with it.

True some games have that option, but I mean with the Cronus, for example, you can completely remap the inputs by reprogramming the converter with the PC software.

Then again I've seen 360 arcade sticks with several different layouts ... it's kind of annoying that there's no "standard".

Bleh, this arrived today and I can't get it working.

Those of you who have one, are there any tricks? Do you have to connect things in a specific order or something?

I thought it was fairly straightforward -- I plugged my wired 360 pad into the USB female A connector, my PS2 controller (Namco stick) into the PS2 connector, then plugged the male USB A connector into the 360 and powered it on. The red light on the adapter is on, it's switched to "360", but neither controller registers.

Edit: Oh actually I just re-read justice99's note above, let me try with a genuine Dual Shock 2 and see.
Edit2: Nah it didn't make any difference. I verified both controllers are working on their own, just not with the adapter.

I can return it to the seller and get a replacement, but honestly it will just cost me more money to ship it back. I don't mind losing the $7, but hopefully I'm just doing something wrong?

Edit3: Just tested Dual Shock 2 and Namco stick connected to my PC, with the adapter switched to "PS3". My PC recognizes it as a PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller, so at least that part works. So I'll be able to use my DS2 or Namco stick on my PC or PS3, which is nice. Seems like the button layout might be a tad out of whack ... I'll have to test with my PS3 to be sure.

With the adapter switched to "360", it doesn't register on my PC at all ... this adapter is a very odd duck indeed.

Hello,
When i use this adapter, i sometime have to unplug the ps2 controller and to plug it back, or to unplug the usb controller and to plug it back...
Try different way, plug and unplug, it will work.

I will try it tonight.

Regards.

Ok got home from work just now and tried again with DS2 to the 360 and it's working fine.

So I guess maybe it's a bit finicky, which is fine.

Yay it works!

Edit: Swapped out the DS2 for my Namco stick and also working. Woo woo woo Namco stick on 360 ahahahah

Edit2: Also very happy to report that it works perfectly on PS3 as well, and button mapping is perfect!

Wow not bad for $7 indeed

I tend to steer clear of these adapters altogether, as every one I've tried adds lots of input lag.

It's probably because of your PSX controller, no lag for me.

Let me do some testing right now with SSFIV on the PS3 ... but I didn't notice any lag so far.

Edit: No lag that I can discern. I also tested the Namco stick on my PC with MAME, and did not notice any lag - tried with Blazing Star, ESP Ra.De.

Also, just for the hell of it, I decided to try my 360 controller on the PS3, and it works as well :D

So, for $7, this device will do:

- PS2 -> Xbox 360
- PS2 -> PS3
- PS2 -> PC
- 360 -> PS3

All without any lag.
