That's basically it.

However, I'm slacking on the channel tbh. I'll put up Pyonyang's amazing vid, but I'm always so busy I'm struggling to keep track of it. I mentioned to Bzpbanshee several months ago that I may either offer up the keys (password and google account) to a successor or just can it. I'll probably reupload the Awesome Guide to Sealed Game Collecting on my regular channel though (because funny).

So this is a callout: does anyone want the keys to the ASGDF mantle? Or should I kill it dead?

Who knows, one day you may get your hands on a resealing video (the ultimate!)

Any for Saturn / PS1? Just curious, as I like to get sealed copies of disc-based games if the sellers I trust don't have any meeting their mint/near-mint grade. Have bought (and promptly opened, played and read through the manuals of) tons for those two systems off eBay, don't think I've come across any boots/reseals yet. No twinkies either. Get to work Ed!

I'd have taken photos of my unspeakably violating Taromaru, Zanac X Zanac and Umihara Kawase Shun 2nd Edition, if I'd have remembered to care all those months and years ago. I'm mulling over selling Taro's sticker but it's so cute I can't bear to. :p

I'm pretty sure most are a bit nuts/deluded to begin with. I don't say that entirely facetiously - I've seen posters on Sealed Game Heaven (<-funny site!) fretting over the seal on their PAL Madden 2004 for Xbox. I assume they suppress the sheer horror of even contemplating unsealing their stash to find a horde of twinkies leering back at them, lest they finally go over the edge into howling Lovecraftian digit-gnawing or - even worse - start playing their games.

I can only view it in short bursts, it's a thin line between hilarity and despair in that place!

How do you get the Y-folds open without tearing?

So...does this apply to all things, though?

Example: when Game Boy Micros were being phased out/discontinued, I saw them being major-league clearanced out at Sears (specifically, the 20th Anniversary of Mario ones) for a song, and I bought one sort of as an investment/thing that I thought might be cool to have. Since I already had an original DS, which gave me the ability to play GBA games, having the GBM to use wasn't exactly necessary or a priority to me.

I'm kind of glad I never bothered to open it, because a still-sealed system is worth quite a bit o' cheddar these days.

I'm *absolutely* of the mindset that games are meant to be played (including pinball machines, thank you), cars are meant to be driven (including your precious Ferraris, thank you), and basically anything should be used for its purpose. However, this purchase was just for coolness'/investment's sake.

Was I wrong to do so?

first year in the dorms, we'd buy games from bestbuy (psx), carefully slice em open w/ a razor, snake the game, reseal w/ tiny dabs of rubber cement + hairdryer. we'd fill em with bullshit audio cd's (blanks were still pretty expensive). we got around 200 games before being told to fuck off.

Vinyl not ripped is vinyl wasted too. A recording setup isn't hard to hack together with a few spare cables and screw caps, and it's not like the oldies are coming back if that record dies!

That said, yeah, sealed game collecting is silly. Last time I got a new game purely for the sake of treasuring it and supporting the developers, I still tore the fuck outta that shrinkwrap. I even dropped the soundtrack CD in an old stereo for a listen.

What for?

I mean, a brick has about the same function as a sealed copy of a game. You could stare at it, you could throw it around or you could use it as a paperweight...

I mean, come on, what's the use of piling up things you don't use but just... "possess"?

You still haven't defended your answer on the GBM I bought. I think I understand your position anyway, but it still bears repeating: why, if you don't *need* to open it in order to get the same use out of something else, why *wouldn't* you keep the thing sealed and perhaps wait for the value to go up?

Once you've got them shifted why don't you upload a vid of you doing it on YT saying you've done the same with X amount of games. That should keep the sealed game collectors up at night.

A few more vids like that and one of a someone next to a machine sealing new repros would probably crash the market.

A secondary piece of hardware I don't see a problem with the same way. Opening it wouldn't serve any purpose. Personally I'd keep it on hand as a replacement if my original ever conked out rather than to solely appreciate in value. The day it was required is the day I'd open and play it.

Right, and that's pretty much the way I've viewed it, too. It isn't as though that particular piece of hardware is necessary for me to play the games designed for it, and quite frankly, I *never* would have bought the thing in the first place had it not been bargain-basement priced and I'd thought, "Hey, for that money, that's cool enough to be worth it. Maybe it'll be worth something someday, too."

But to, say, own a Vita and never open it or play it at all? Or to own any given system and not be able to play its associated games? That's stupid...like owning a Ferrari you never have any intention of driving. Truly a ridiculous picture.
