As mulletgeezer quoted: DEL wrote;
As for there being a cap on difficulty through the loops on Toaplan shooters, it does vary. Some end at the end of the 2nd loop like Hellfire and V-5, but the Japanese Fire Shark board seems to increase bullet speed with every loop ad infinitum  . My friend ARC conducted an experiment with Fire Shark - he put it on invincible mode and let the game play overnight while he slept. When he came back to it in the morning, the bullets were teeming down the screen like you wouldn't believe  . At least that's what he told me.
The Jap PCB of Fire Shark cannot be beaten for bullet speed, as it just gets faster and faster with every loop.
Truxton/Tatsujin's 3rd loop onwards had deadly bullet speed too, but you had the fully sped-up ship to accomodate that madness.
Having watched Mills on Raiden Deluxe's 3rd and 4th loops -> now those are some crazy speed bullets teeming down on you, especially as its a slow ship.
Fever SOS is of course fast.

You could've at least tried to explain why I'm wrong, because I enjoy watching people say stupid things.

Strikers games, really? first loops at least are pretty slow and sparse.

Some games that come to mind:

- Raiden Fighters (especially if you're using the Judge Spear)
- Air Buster (absurdly fast scrolling)
- Dangun Feveron (I don't know why, but this game just feels really fast to me, almost too fast to keep up with.

If you're adding borderliners, you could add After Burner on original arcade hardware to the list too.

Shikigami 3 is actually a really slow shmup compared to those.
I agree with you about the speed of the original Castle Shikigami 3 and I also agree that most Psikyo games and Raiden games are fiendishly fast on their second loops. However, when it comes to the Wii version of Castle Shikigami 3, empowered by the fiery fuel of the Extra Options, it is like taking one of those Psikyo or Raiden Games and thrusting it into speed scorching overdrive. Have you ever taken a shooter super-play on youtube and run it at about 3 times the speed? That is what is like. I was flabbergasted when I witnessed it. I never would of expected it. I encourage anyone here to try it and see.

Feels better at 60Hz to me, personally. Particularly, the music seems kinda slow in 50Hz, especially with the stage 7 tune.

It's kind of dumb when people misspell "shmup" to be Wacky and Colorful.

I'd go for Raiden Fighters. 500 bpm music, "do about 5 things per second" scoring, fast bullet patterns... it's a game for cyborgs.

Twinbee Yahhoo! In stage 3, and other stages, there are sections where you're moving so fast that your movement in a certain direction is slowed down to give the very impression of speed. Or, you're pushed back by wind and such. I think it's pretty cool when shmups do that.

I sincerely apologize; I meant no disrespect to anyone by misspelling shmups. While I like break-neck speed shmups, this reminds me that I need to slow down, and make sure I am being as accurate as possible when posting.

Raiden Fighters sounds like it runs at a blistering pace. I like the idea of doing 5 things per second. It sounds awesome! I remember Raiden Trad for the old Sega Genesis very fondly. As emphasized in the previous posts, the barrage of blazing bullets can feel alarmingly faster, when your comparatively slow ship feels like it is swimming against the tide. That is how it is in Raiden Trad. The ratio between ship speed and bullet speed is definitely something to consider.

Well, getting down your scoring route isn't too complicated. If you try to go for continuous bullet grazing, it's a whole other story, of course.
