STG Weekly #12: Gradius V

Post by Aquas »

Hello all. Episode 12's game(s) are undecided at this moment... but here's where you can help decide. I've compiled a list of game suggestions I've recieved on youtube comments. If there is a game you're knowledgeable on and would like to comment on, please say so. Also if you are aware of quality footage for mentioned game(s) please point it out. I'll be looking as well.

Here are the suggestions, the seperators indicate a different person who suggested these games. Ontop of this, if you would like to third, or second any of these suggestions now would be a time to show interest, and I'll bring that game into the top of the consideration list.

-rayforce, darius gaiden, paradias da, thunder force 3 or 4, ikaruga, radiant silvergun, kamui, biohazard battle,
-r type, gunbird 2, strania (2),
-ibara, battle garegga (at least seconded)
-treasure (seconded)
-blast works wii
-raiden fighters 2,
-Gun.Smoke? Psyvariar? Vulgus? Homura? Mobile light force 2(Shikigami no Shiro)? 1942? G.Darius? Last resort?
-akai katana

At this time I'm highly considering something Treasure or Strania. So any Treasure suggestions are welcome as well. Ikaruga and Gradius V are the most plain verdicts... but... surely there are more.

This query is more than an indicator for this week's episode, but also future episodes. It's getting a little bit harder to decide on games. A little bit...

Pretty sure Jaimers's recent Ketsui 2-all would be a very worthy episode.

Also, would you ever consider featuring doujin/freeware shmups on STG Weekly?

Definitely, on both accounts. I would like to add that I don't want to do too many Cave games in a row or close to each other. And on that matter, games that aren't similar to each other, as to maintain a fresh variety. So Ketsui should be down the road a bit.

I suggested mars matrix on one of the other stg weekly threads. Get rob on to do commentary as xoxak and it will be gold.

Something other than CAVE and Raizing style games, not that those episode are boring or anything, but would be nice to mix things up abit.

I'll put in a vote for Ikaruga; could probably even provide some commentary if you'd like. I actually still haven't 1CC'ed the game, but I've put quite a lot of time into it. I also have several decent scores, including a #15 in the FC/Hard/Prototype XBL leaderboards.

At some point I would love to see you guys cover Ibara, but I think you've done a fair amount of CAVE and Raizing thus far.

Also,

I'd also really like to see Mars Matrix, since I hear so much praise for it from Rob and other forumgoers. Garegga is a given eventually, and I also second something by Milestone.

Mars Matrix would be cool too.

A Parodius.

Cotton 2/Boomerang would be neat, since I've wanted to get into one of them but neither have clicked. I don't know that we really have any high-level scorers for either, though.

Hellsinker could be an interesting episode. Definitely plenty to talk about and fun to watch.

Strania would be nice too.

Love to see all of the Mars Matrix love! I suggested this a while back too and would love to see a run of it.

If I have to pick from the list, I would love to see Radiant Silvergun. The Ben Shinobi and VTF-INO replays on superplay are sick, especially the swordplay run.

I'd love to see Strania represented. It's a game I technically should love, but have been unable to get into for whatever reason, so maybe a commentary could help me figure out why.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

You know what would be epic, a video of all 28 levels of Darius Gaiden. You can start by doing the top row and moving one row down each time. Maybe that should be your last video ever because that is just to epic, its probably 3hrs worth, and if you then do Darius Gaiden Extra Version on top of that, another 3 hrs! Anyone else with me in having a 6 hour final episode whenever stgweekly decides to stop??

Mars Matrix sounds good, Chaos Field too, just a question if we have any good replays.....or will any old footage do?

I like that Psyvariar was mentioned, not seconding it yet because I'm still working on a decent replay to maybe submit for it later.

Other than that, DDP or DOJ by Prometheus would be awesome.

I could probably commentate on Strania, depends on if I actually have a mic stashed somewhere though lol.

If you're doing Treasure, ben.shinobi's Radiant Silvergun story mode world record replay on XBLA would be cool

Mars Matrix
It's a landslide, but might want to hold off on that one. If there isn't a better replay out there already, the old one I posted is sloppy and the video quality is poor. I've been playing a lot lately and aiming for a much better run that I could eventually provide, though. As for the voice talent, I'd like to hear someone who isn't me talk about the game (Randorama?).

Throwing a vote in for Night Raid because I want to see the mysteries of that mess explained by an expert. It should also tide over the Takumi fans.
