Interesting bootlegs of shooters.

Post by zaphod »

1) DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou (!) http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 17781.html
Note that the is is originally PGM hardware. this appears to be a PC based boot. in fact it seems to be the same board they are using for their actual typex boots. I think this is probably running MAME.

Under their actual typex boot category, we have...

2) Trouble Witches http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 82655.html

as you can see, exact same price.

and another

3) SnS II http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 47129.html

(oddly enough this one is more expensive)

There's also one for homura, but that one is not in the store at the moment.

All of these boots have a jamma controller hookup, but output 31 Khz through a vga cable. there's a test mode button and a volume knob on the board with the video connectors.

 Screenshot of DOJ is upside down and has digital bezel on the sides of the screen instead of displaying in TATE. Just what the world needs.

You can tell by the text on the bezel that whoever posted the screenshot just knew nothing about the game and figured the person in the picture was supposed to be right side up. These bootlegs suck though. They are just a cheap PC with JVS board.

A computer with Mame, nothing more, it's not a bootleg, but emulation.

Definitely more of a classic, but the early bootleg of 1943 before it was released in the US is one of my favorites. You can not match the mashed-up English for hilarity: "AN TAK TARGE!" (attack target)

and the original type x games aren't? :)

I actually got a picture of the inside of one of these.

They use the same basic motherboard chipset as type x^2, and the i/o board is a custom job that takes Jamma+kick harness and outputs jvs i/o to the com port header on the motherboard.

And I do know that picture is of the ps2 version.

here's a more interesting screenshot

Type X hardware sucks too but at least it's new games.
