Thanks, i do wtfness like no other ;)
ill work on that movement, probably to do with the slight acceleration

Ive managed to squeeze through that massive barrage with pixel perfect precision ..so i thought id got it down. But thanks for the feedback :D

I would pop this back in the dev section before announcing a public release - so you can get some feedback on gameplay and so on. People are generally nicer there as they appreciate works in progress and the forum is frequented by some good players too who like to check out what people are up to. As for my advice, don't put me on a pedestal or anything as I make plenty of fundamental mistakes too.

'wtfness' is cool and all, but you gotta learn to make a straight up balls to the wall shooter before you can go crazy for unique ideas, gimmicks and trying out new ideas. When I said "when you press move, it should move" - I basically meant don't do any sort of inertia or acceleration, or you'll get laughed out of town by some really unrelenting bastards. Have you seen Giest's trigonometry wars? Squares, triangles and circles are all you need!

Oops typo, The first word was meant to be שמים (heaven, read from right to left ) the second word is actually unknown, its all a bit cryptic.. its generally known as an omen.

Well done for going the extra mile researching though :D

Haha, fuck yes! A new railslave shoo--

oh wait, I just made the connection that it was you in both the music threads and the caravan games! hahaha. Awesome stuff, but it could really use some sound effects. If it means anything, I never posted in the pirate shooter threads because I just disagreed with everyone else and thought that there should be MORE gems on screen. Bunch of joykills here. As for this game, I think the slowdown feels a bit unnatural and too obviously programmed, but it's still pretty damn fun. I love the religious text off to the side, too. I for one wholly support uterus bosses and think you can never go wrong with more guts.

Points of interest:
*The music doesn't loop very well, there's a very unnatural pause before it hits the title screen.
*Title screen music doesn't actually loop at all.
*I didn't realize I had actually gotten a game over the first time it froze and kicked me to the title screen
*I also wholly approve of gamepad support! I'm not a big arrow keys fan, but it's much much better than using the mouse like on the previous games.
*Can you make it so you can increase screen size without changing the aspect ratio? Maybe a full-screen mode that forces the aspect ratio to stay in the middle.
*The music is fucking awesome. I was actually about to say "Oh finally, a shooter that uses railslave's music!" before I realized that IS you.
*The explosions shouldn't be on top of the bullets
*It seems unnatural to me that exploding enemies can still kill you -- but maybe this one is just me.
*It is very fun
*I didn't click on the thread before because the hindu characters closely resemble advertisement spam on a certain forum I visit

Thanks Nana, its truly humbling, both that you remembered me and my stuff and the music :) and that you actualy had fun, not with just the games but the whole "vibe" :)

All these are little experiment for an overarching project thats been in the works for 2 years("the milk of ultra violet"), its going to be ...uh messed up :D Or even pieces of art and a commentary on how i perceive things as a whole.

Theres an Android game coming out thats going to have my music and possibly some other secret projects. TBH its been a long time since ive done any music , so this is me getting warmed up ..i havnt actualy put my mind to anything yet. I struggle keeping my attention on one thing.

Ill take all them points on board.

The main point of "Milk of ultra violet " (the game all this is leading up to ) is to have a game like this

Image

with ***random*** encounters (like phantasy star 2)that end up like this

Image(when i can program stuff like this )

:P hope you continue to be inspired at the very least !
oh and guts ....
well
im not going to sleep till i can design stuff like this baddie!

Image

love that so much :D

lolol

I've been helping Railslave out with this - did some colouring of the sprite and basically eliminated the black lines. Didn't take long. Needs some additional shading in places to help it 'pop' more after colouring - but tbh, the dudes getting there.

Right , reboot the project "part 50".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zMyIlAm ... e=youtu.be gun sound sucks

The new mechanic is the multiplier beam... :| it rewards the player who doesnt just rush in to kill everything, but waits for the right moment to strike, and reap some devastating score. While enemies are in the beam they start to rotate and slow right down (the numbers dripping from the enemies also indicate that youve got them in the beam.

From now on all ships will be done in 3d (a great way to learn blender) and when i get motivated theres going to be some very nice ship banking.

All back drops completely hand drawn. (just placeholders at the minute, intended for greener pastures, but they nailed the mood)
Now rocking 540 x 720 for maximum detail, thanks to my digital mountaintop training by "snufu san"

If you get hit, you dont die, but you loose your multiplier...

Aiming for something short like fire arrow (for now), with production values of that quality. .........:S

And some of the trippiest "shmupcore" music you ever heard

What to expect....something devastatingly pretty and my first stab at mid and end stage bosses, which will look the part, at least, and be announced by some terrifyingly angular techno..

Holy HELL this is hard. Current high score is 49603500, I'm loving it though. Took me a little while to find out how the scoring worked, but when I did my jaw dropped in a sort of "there's no way somebody would be crazy enough to do this..." manner. I love it.

But yes, please do include controller support. That would make this remarkably easier. I noticed also that the majority of the times I died were from moving into an enemy to the side, and I initially thought the hitbox was larger than it appeared, as the screen before it cut back to the title showed the bullets not actually touching my hitbox. But then I realized it might have something to do with the movement delay - like the movements themselves are registered and calculated before they show up on the screen. Aside from that, is there going to be more dialogue? Potential for some Milestone-like conversations in this one, if the player makes time for their own breaks. Pretty interesting how the difficulty control is completely up to the player, as well.

Very cool! Get some controller support, sound effects, and bosses in there!

And I'm loving the new graphics, by the way. I'm not sure how I feel about the removal of sprite enemies, but the new 3D ones are clear and easy to see, and look good.

And seriously, that's a ton of suicide bullets. I hope this is near the endgame @_@

Try this nana, i dont have a 360 controller so i cant test it, i think youl find this is alot more playable, and i had a go at doing a chain bar, inspired by Chronoblast (inspired, im not saying i pulled it off).

doesnt seem to be delay on this, i think that was down the the layer effects i had going on .

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/84483952/URIEL ... update.exe

Ive got some pretty crazy ideas for a story , as usual. stage 2 is going to be a remake of שמי אות, this is the training level, training for angels, in the chasm.

Oh and "Raphaels" score should look familar, took another leaf out of the N0rty customer care manual and "hard wired" it in (hes so 80's"

I basicly cant play Chronoblast, so i got withdrawl symptoms..i think it shows.

Just a little update...and still only 2 enemies

oh an its not a chain in the traditional sense...and isnt meant to be (dont rush in to kill, scan the enemy first ).
If you go for the score though you have to deal with those nasty slow suicide bullets.
Also im going to have another score bar that rewards you the futher up the screen you stay.
Disabled enemies can be budged around and used as shields, if you need a breather as well... well not yet , but they will, thats the next step.

Whoah! This update is a HUGE improvement. The inclusion of controller support is a huge help as well, for sure. The scoring system makes a lot more sense now, even though it's a bit less crazy than before. Speaking of which, thanks for saving my previous score, but I'm not sure it's fair to keep that in when it's not even possible (as far as I can tell) to get scores with that many digits in this latest revision, haha. I really like the concept of keeping enemies pinned with the scan/flashlight, and racking up points while you do so. I'm not sure that's exactly considered a chain though, unless maybe the counter (which currently maxes out at 100) maxes out at 100 per enemy, which would result in crazy multipliers upwards of 1000 pretty quickly, and insanely high scores as well. Not that this is exactly a good idea mind you, but it would sure result in high numbers.

Aside from that, I want to also point out how much I absolutely love the title screen. It's really stylish, and gives a sort of creepy introduction to the game. Will it change as players do more in the game? And speaking of which, how will the story in the actual game be told? I get the feeling it will be integrated into gameplay somehow. The orange and black theme reminds me a bit of Rez, and the (awesome) song reminds me of Bjork: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_u559Gx7BM

So basically, props! This version is better in every way. And let me personally say this is the first time in a game of yours where I've really loved the "feel" of it, which is very important. Though, I imagine the controller support has something to do with that . I can't wait to see where this goes from here!

P.S. - Is the slowdown programmed in, or is it just reaching the limit of my computer when I flood the screen with bullets? Either way it finally feels natural and not awkward like the part in Heavy Omen with it.

EDIT: I guess it is worth noting however that you still have to press 'z' from the title screen to get into the game, you can't just use the controller.

EDIT EDIT: Oh yeah, and I've had the game crash in a couple of instances. I notice it does so 100% of the time if you rush to the ceiling at the start of the level, and then slowly move down, avoiding bullets.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Just figured out why -- it looks like my hitbox actually gets STUCK and stays off the top of the screen, so when a bullet from an enemy reaches that part, it acts as if I got shot, and die. You can't shoot bullets in this state, either.

Overall this is an improvement, but I didn't dig too deep into it because it still had a notable input lag in controlling the ship. Is it only on my computer? I know it's a pretty big change, but I recommend switching to another game making tool / programming language.
If watching the trailer of the game
makes you feel a certain way
I would be very happy if
you would give the game a try

Yep, there is still input lag. Especially noticeable when you fill the screen with bullets and you do a single tap in any direction.

EDIT: But the thing is only thirty seconds long anyway. So it's not really possible to dig too deep just yet.

Tried the build from about 3 posts above, managed to get 3758950 and the risk/reward thing (assuming I understood it at all) is pretty fun and addictive and makes you wanna retry again and again. Anyway, some thoughts: input lag has been mentioned (it's quite obvious, though slow-move button would mitigate), also it certainly feels to me like the hitbox was larger than the visible dot. Finally, it seems as if enemies in the upper right corner get stuck into the mode where numbers fall, even when you move your beam elsewhere (maybe related to the reported "hitbox stuck" glitch?). The multiplier seems to get capped very fast. The single game exe-file was a nice surprise (wish that was done more often). I can't get any slowdown, but then again I didn't manage to fill the screen that much either. Need explosions (I like the graphics in general though). :)

edit: oh and +1 for "maintain aspect scaling"

Pff, you had a higher score than me. I'm guessing the slowdown was really just my computer reaching its limit then, haha. My high score on this version is 3540850. Any special trick you're using if you're not letting the screen fill up with bullets?

EDIT: Wait, I just did another round where I just pretty much scanned everything and shot it immediately after, and yet my score was 3682125. Apparently scanning for as long as possible not only makes the game harder but doesn't help with score :P
