What [not shmup] game are you playing now?

Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

Was at Arcade Odyssey with some buddies again.

I mostly played Virtual On, got my ass kicked after a win against my friend, my win was against him using Raiden, and then I started losing when he picked Fei-Yen. I play Viper II.

I'd mention having also played a Raiden 4 cab there, but this isn't the right thread. :P

Razing Storm. I haven't noticed many locals able to 1cc this game, but due to the slight lag between trigger and step pedal, this game is as hard as a rock. Still, pretty cool game and dialogue all around. Recommended game, and you can get this from the all-in-one Time Crisis 4/Razing Storm/Deadstorm Pirates on the PS3 console for home gaming.

If you do pick this up for the PS3, avoid the story mode on Razing Storm. It's really awful, but if you are wondering what happens after the events of Razing Storm, then go ahead.
This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

I just finished The Testament Of Sherlock Holmes. Didn't disappoint, exactly what I expected from playing the last one. Accidentally skipped one of the puzzles by pressing the wrong button (they really need a 'Do you really want to skip this puzzle?' confirmation) so didn't get all the achievements.

Credits sequence is awesome:

Just bought Phantom Breaker: BattleGrounds on XBLA... holy shit, this came out of nowhere for me!

Fantastic beat em' up in the same vein as Scott Pilgrim, Guardian Heroes and Code of Princess.

Fighting take place on 2 planes (similar to Guardian Heroes), and the character cast is all female, designed in the same style as Scott Pilgrim. Animation, enemies and gameplay is seriously amazing - might be some of the best in the genre.

I believe some devs from the original Guardian Hero team worked on the game - and it shows.

There's a demo up on XBLA - go check it out if you like awesome.

Tekken Tag 2. Good times online. I think it's great how they gave out extra characters with the updates.

Virtua Fighter 5 FS, good times online, but tough. The game goes on sale over Live next month, with about 60% off! 3 button set-up, so you can use the same kinda config to play you probably use for some of the STGs 8)

Monkey Ball Deluxe I found offline for next to nothing, gonna see if that loads up OK on 360. Had a lot of fun with that in multi-player back on 'cube, ooh, about a decade ago now :o

Renegade Ops completed (both campaigns on hardcore difficulty). That takes care of all PSN titles on my backlog.

Now I need to focus on my physical collection. Still deciding between Borderlands, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and the God of War series to get started.

Out of curiosity, which set?

Horror Story also proliferated sets beyond reason. I don't remember which one the CD-ROM version is based on, or even if there was much difference between them other than the inclusion of the butterfly cutscene.

Whatever the default set in MAME is. Apparently that's a hacked set with jacked up difficulty, but I'm having fun with it regardless.

OutZone is one of those games where you can have fun with every set. I liked playing the version where enemies started off firing furiously at you. I did find the mechanic of balancing use of cover against time to finish the stage a bit uninspiring, and sometimes it's a bit hard to get around and aim with just one stick. Still damn good, though.

I am at the reactor level of System Shock 1. Really digging it so far, though I wish I could figure out how to make the sprite-based enemies look a bit better in the resolution department.

I really like how pressing the switch at the LASER CONTROL ROOM accidentally destroyed earth. SHODAN herself thanked me for being such a brainless moron. Praise from Caesar.

Does it get bad? Or does it simply stop being interesting? I was playing it earlier this month [stopped simply because I haven't been home as much], but from what I've played [on the first disc], it's mostly okay.

It doesn`t particularly get worse in the gameplay department, but there`s a certain plot twist about 65% into the game that completely changes your perception of Star Ocean 3`s story and world, and I don`t mean it in a good way.

Pretty fun game. Been craving some Beat-em-ups lately. Also, it's better than the fighting game from where it spawned.
Same here. Nightmare mode is a lot of fun with a level 50 character (doesn't take long to reach in coop)
I think there's supposed to be a level cap increase too, when the DLC character is released? I may have misread, but I haven't sank too much time into it yet. I'm still level 18, haha. I really wasn't expecting too much from the game, but I am pleasantly surprised with it. Don't regret the impulse purchase at all. :)

For as out there as SO3's story got, SO4 was actually much more painful because they cranked the melodrama up. From what I can remember SO3 at least handled its questionable twist as well as can be expected from a JRPG.

The series would do well (have done well?) to change its formula up a little - if there is a Star Ocean V, it will involve space cadets marooned on an alien world who get caught up in local troubles that are connected to a force that threatens all of existence. There will also be religious overtones. Even if this concept were a good idea, tri-Ace simply aren't the people who can be trusted with it.

The star ocean series has a combat system that sort of plays like beat'em'ups/fighters etc. So makes sense to me in this case at least. The combat and mechanics can be fun by themselves. Never played 3 or 4 myself though.

Yeah, that seems sorta dumb though since with level 99 you probably just get everything maxed out. with level 50 you have to choose what abilities to have and what stats to concentrate on. You level up really fast in co-op, just like 5 stages and you'll probably be max level. It's sorta silly how long it takes to get the super attacks and overdrive, they make the game much more fleshed out.

^ It's quite good, although not the be-all-end-all that the gaming press make it out to be. Some real choice and lots of illusion of choice. The story is very good, and well-acted. The action bits are basically glorified QTEs, but they manage to be compelling. If you like point'n'click adventures, I'd definitely recommend. Although maybe wait till it's on sale. I think episode 1 is free, so that oughta be enough to know whether it's your thing or not.
