Do you crack your legally owned PC games?

Post by FatCobra »

Ok, you have this 100GB harddrive with enough space to handle 50 full installitions of serveral games. And you do have alot of full installs on your computer. Yet, for some strange reason, you still need the fuckin' CD to play the damn game! Why? All the files on your hard drive! Why does it need the stupid CD? Oh wait, it's that stupid copy protection isn't it? Bullshit! I don't like having to swap about 10 CDs if I feel like playing a different game. So I crack most of em'. I always back up the original exe file so I can patch my game later down the road.

Now, I don't condone priacy, and yes, it's lazy to crack your games. But you know what? I don't want to risk scratching up or losing my CDs from swapping all the time?

So basically, do you crack your games?

yeah i've done it before, although less because of the hassle of cds, more because i can't be bothered to track down some serial number on some case that i may or may not even have in the house.

Well, most lately I cannot even INSTALL some PC game.

The copy protect on the disc prevent me from installing the game on a PC installed with a CD-Writer ?! ?!

If I really wanted to play the game so much, I have to remove my CD-R drive during installation and connect it back after. :?

What are those game publisher thinking? Torturing player willing to pay for a legal copy, so that more would move to play prate copy?

Do you have Daemon Tools installed? I hear Doom 3 isn't going to let you install the game (at least via ordinary means) if that's on your PC.

That's as stupid as Blockbuster not letting you rent a tape just because you could use your VCR to copy it. I can't wait for someone to challenge this in court.

Since when did the publishers start doing this? This may change the type of drives I may get for my PC project.

Why must the developers treat paying customers like criminals while the pirates laugh at us? It's like back in grade school where one kid sticks gum on the teacher's seat and everyone loses their gum priviliges. Maybe that ass-backwards shit works for little kids, but we are adults, and this sort of thing pisses me off. Are these companies trying to get people to pirate their games? If so, arr matey!!

Not true. I have both an US copy of Doom III and Daemon tools installed. Legal copy, of course :).

I crack my games all the time. It's just a pain in the arse having to swap cd's/dvd's, whenever I want to play a game. It's a bit of a pain when the game has been patched and the no cd crack fails.

I downloaded a no-CD patch for my legit copy of Worms: World Party when I was in college. Gave the game out to a bunch of friends to do the same so we could have massive Worm-LAN parties. Then I regretted it once I realized I had paid $30 for a game that everybody else was enjoying for free. :( I can be dumb like that.

Think of it this way, would the game been fun by yourself or with your friends?

Besides, you were in college at the time, being poor and a software pirate is completely natural.

When I worked in a cd rental shop there were many people returning audio cds because they would not even play on some dvd or car players.

This whole self indulgent copy protection idea has gone too far.

Remember the CD protection that was easily defeated with a marker?

Yeah, these audio cd protections are no big deal.
It's just the fact that a certain cd may not work without some help on some players.

CD copy protection pisses me off. While I haven't had any problems with PC games (though I regularly download no-cd patches), I have had problems with audio CDs.

The most recently is System of a Down's latest release. It will NOT play in my trans am's CD player. It plays about 1/2 a second of sound, 1/2 a second of silence, and repeat. Sounds like it's constantly skipping. Plays fine in my truck though.

Fucking RIAA. I don't even know what to do with this CD as I lost the receipt, and I can't listen to it.

I can copy it and listen to it just fine, but copied CDs are more succeptible to skipping in my car.

IIRC, some publishers will exchange your copy-protected CD for a regular one if that one doesn't play on your regular hardware. Try and give them a holler.

That's a good idea.
