I enjoy watching adult Sony fanboys on the internet persistently claim their console is the true home of hardcore, Japanese gaming, when of course the truth has become almost the exact opposite (offline shooting and online fighting plus Bayonetta). Long may it continue.

my uncle works at Steam Inc., and told me all the cave and psykio and raizing etc games are coming to steam and i never have to buy another insufferable console built around fps games where you press square to hold onto the rope and listen to 30 minutes of exposition ever again.

I think there's someone at MS who's pulling for shmups. IIRC, MS published the Ikaruga and Raident Silvergun XBLA versions, "encouraged" CAVE to port DDP SDOJ, and many other examples I'm forgetting.

At the moment though, it's way too early to tell. Who would have guessed last gen that shmups would be exclusive to MS' American dudebro box?

Yeah, I think they also approached G-Rev and that's how Senko no Ronde wound up on the XBox. I could see why they might want to get a niche genre with die-hard fans on the box. In a territory that the XBox is struggling in, it does lend them some rootsy legitimacy. *I* was impressed, at least :)

dunno if this topic might be used for general PS4 banter, but this cracked me up so much today:

if sony did start a next gen, than it is the next gen of fanboys

When SCEA made their annoucement regarding the PS4 on 2/20/13, it was mentioned that it wouldn't have PS3 backwards compatibility from the get-go. So in other words, if you want to play your favorite games on the PS3 platform, keep it for the time being.
