I can easily recommend this to anyone to who loves Cave shooters. Complete with online leaderboards (you need Xbox Live Gold), for 80msp it's practically a steal!

been looking forward to this for a long time, good to hear from the posts that it's good.

Only problem is that due to being at work when finding out this got released, I will have to now wait to get home and give this a go. :(

Just had time to try it real quick before heading out. Feature request for a patch: Add either button remapping or widen the button usage to allow X and Y buttons to be used as well for fire. I don't have RB or LB in my cabinet.

I will post pictures and a video later. Really recommend this game to all shmup fans, for 80 points it's a no-brainer.

I've just given some feedback to N0rty on the display stuff and it did cross my mind whilst playing it that the trigger needs to be re-assigned. I've yet to try it in my cab yet, but I'm fairly sure I have the trigger buttons mapped on my padhack..... we'll find out soon enough, but it's certainly a worth while mod to do in any case.

awesome game! Right now it and Snops Attack are about the best "new school" shmups avaiable on the XBLIG. Very well crafted, as good as some larger company works.

Emphatic, you are a person of great sillyness...:-)

On the character select screen where it tells you the buttons and you have to press "OK" - move your stick up... THAT is the button remapping screen. It's already in dude :D

Default button layout is basically modelled after an xbox pad the way I used to play Futari on it and a Madcatz TE, which has the layout of:

X,Y,RB,LB
A,B,RT,RB

It looks like I've got a few things to put in to a patch, not score related but mostly interface and control based. I guess it wouldn't hurt to make the button reassignment a little bit more obvious.

Cheers guys!

Better me than customers with zero tolerance. :D

In my defense, I had the sun shining down on the screen and was in a bit of a hurry. I'll have a better look now.

I warned you: *SQUEAL*

So, I think what I might do at some point having realised that some of you don't have gold membership is perhaps generate a system for sharing your scores with other people via a code. Y'know, old playstation style. Seeing the scores come in is possibly the most fun thing ever!

I won't bump this thread repeatedly, I suspect I'll be spamming the development forum to death (which by the way, you should all read because there are some seriously good games in there that you're missing out on!!) but for now, here's a copy from there, for those of you that just aren't golden enough in the eyes of Microsoft:

Code: Select all

AutoBomb:
1. OSTawhiri, 204,108,305
2. n0rty, 177,920,945
3. MKPRO2k7, 137,474,741
4. Doudinou, 126,532,279
5. Klatrymadon, 58,435,679

Code: Select all

Normal:
1. n0rty, 70,967,352
2. SuperSoaker360, 58,883,592
3. Doudinou, 20,529,657
4. Alfred Saxon, 2,235,125
5. Klatrymadon, 1,355,832

Code: Select all

Hell
1. n0rty, 80,762,373
2. SuperSoaker360, 54,525,724
3. Danmaku71, 5,160,906
4. Doudinou, 2,587,075
5. Alfred Saxon, 1,937,993
Should give you something to play against at least! :)

edit: also, please give the game a rating if you would be so kind. It'll help it stay in the XBLIG charts instead of disappearing in to the ether... When I say a rating - I do of course mean that I'm clearly and rather shamelessly begging for a nice 4-5 star rating, but hey - give whatever you feel is fair. You can do it from the dashboard under the game details :)

Been playing unranked to get a feel, great so far.

Only request I have would be to allow for black background and repositioning the play area. The former because my dumb TV has temporary burn in issues if a static image is left on screen too long. More incentive to get a TV for Tate later on.

Definately mate. I'll get that in a patch. Preserving hardware is pretty damned important. I know what it's like to just leave shmups running while you chill, browse forums, watch youtube and stuff... Sorry this wasn't a consideration when I wrote it, I didn't really think of screen burn in being an issue. d'oh!

So, I'll see about:
* Moving play area along axis (shouldn't be hard)
* Disabling background artwork
* Possibly adding a screen saver on idle to bounce a logo around or something
* Adding an indication that you can change controls
* Possibly altering hue/sat/brightness of some of the score items, or offering the ability to switch between sprite sheets?

Also want to get the issue resolved that a few people have mentioned in the dev forum about corrupt high scores. I think I'm possibly being overzealous with saving high scores - so I would ask that you cleanly exit the game instead of powering off your console for now. But I'm basically seeding high scores for people all day for a few days.. so you should receive the score lists back at least. This didn't get caught in peer review, but I'll be sure to take a serious look at it.

Can't patch or address any issues for 5 days I'm afraid, standard XBLIG guidelines then it could be a week or so before the patch gets through review.

Btw n0rty, can't seem to rate the game, the option in game details isn't there like in other games.

Here's a little more feedback:

* When you get killed and are re-spawned, you can't start moving for about a second and it feels awkward, please allow for quicker regain of controls
* Pressing A on game over starts a continued game, please change this to the Start button like in arcade games and please let us cancel the countdown by pressing A 10 times
* The sound effects are way too loud compared to the music

I look forward to your patch even if any of these changes doesn't appeal to you. :D

All changes I can make. I had a feeling someone would want to skip the countdown sequence... knew it was coming :)

Respawn delay, I can allow you to take control as soon as the ship is on screen. This won't affect scoring, so won't require a version specific leaderboard. Consider it done.

Sound... I guess I'm going to have to put a real options menu in there. Consider it done.. :)

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah for some reason I've noticed that. I think you actually have to go find it in the market place. Do it if you can be bothered, otherwise no biggy :)

Cool Cool. Next release: 80,000msp!

But seriously, am so glad to hear the feedback. As BareKnuckleRoo said - there's always going to be something sucky about it so any negative feedback will just go towards making a superior patch. Even Cave couldn't please everyone with some of their releases, hence a bunch of revisions with gameplay changes. Discussing some of those over in the dev section so.... if you want to contribute there that would be appreciated too!

I mean yeah, it's 80msp which as I've ranted about time and time again when I'm in "angry bitter dev mode" is a really stupidly insignificant price. I think after today I've probably made about £20 - which I can't even cash out. So it's really not about the cash here, but more about reputation building and the love for games.

The thing I regret is not being able to give out a true test build to people on the forum before the xblig version went live. As you've discussed with me in private before Emphatic, not everyone here really plays games on PC for a number of reasons :)

So, I just got this score in Autobomb mode:

Code: Select all

A-Type - all - 222,859,525
... Which if I'm not mistaken is the highest score so far recorded. Literally half of my score came from no-miss bonuses. And I got only one of the score extends.

So if I'm understanding this right... the way to get the extends in this game is to get all of the no-miss bonuses, thus proving you didn't need the extends. :P

EDIT: Know what I just noticed? Bombing cuts your stage counter IN HALF. Fuck, MushiFutari is nowhere near that strict. This probably explains why the extends seem so unattainable; you really DO need to prove you don't need them in order to get them!

It appears I'm multiplying the extend amount by 10 after the first extend.. then the rest by x2. This is probably way too out of reach and not satisfying enough.

Extend 1 = 100,000,000
Extend 2 = 1,000,000,000
Extend 3 = 2,000,000,000 etc etc

I know what I'm going to do though... beyond just adjusting the maths. You guys seem to like 1UPs! :)

Expect to see these little things in certain locations in the next patch, outside of maths adjustments!

Well considering how tough the game is anyway, and you've modeled it off of games that give three extends in total, I wasn't even sure what to think about how sodding hard the bloody things were to get. XD

Two score extends is usually a good number, unless you're Gustav or some shit. For this game I would think good extend thresholds would be 50 million and 150 million, but that's just me. I'm not exactly an authority in the matter, I just think the current numbers are a bit strange. :3

Man will try it out as soon as I get my 360 back!
Also I say the price don't seem like the best deal, what seems best for me is that n0rtygames seems to listen to what youa sk for and will be willing to fix it.
Can't wait to try it and keep on going n0rtygames :)
