Maybe something similar to Crimzon Clover where you have to use the score to purchase extra credits, and with every credit you have the next purchase has an increased cost.

Arcade games gave a Max power as an incentive to put more money into the machine (apparently it's supposed to be more tempting than simply restarting for the casual player). Obviously this doesn't apply to non-arcade games so there's no need to hand out a Max power item on a gameover.

Have some kind of indicator showing how many continues used and it's not a big deal if you allow them, as long as they're differentiated from 1CCs. Gradius V and Ikaruga both did the x number of credits + 1 credit per hour played (with Free Play unlocked in GrV at 20 or so hours). Something like that might work, dunno. I think Practice mode is always helpful, especially the way Cave's ports have done it. Don't do something silly like the XBLA Ikaruga where you have to unlock the levels in Practice by beating that level (defeats the purpose of being able to practice).

Would anyone with a 480x640 monitor mind telling me how good/bad this looks full screen? I don't have enough retina burning kit in my house to make a decent judgement call.

Sorted out a checkerboard shader while trying to write a decent scanline effect and brick pattern. Not actually what I wanted to achieve, but I guess I'll keep it in the options menu regardless for people who are offended by XNAs need to anti alias and deform everything I throw at it...:-)

Thanks for the interest!

Almost there on CB. Finishing up porting the "support any resolution" code over to Skyravens and making sure that runs at 640x480 before I go wild on that. Instead of bumping this thread every so often I've opened a dev thread where I can make short updates instead of bringing this to the top of general chat with small questions and so forth.

Yeah, sorry about that - didn't see this until now. Please check the Dev log I've been keeping going in the development forum for more updates.

I've actually secretly been a shmups forum member for a long time, so I'm well aware of how irritating it can be to have somebody jumping up and down going "HEY, I HAVE A SHMUP!" in general chat - see the countless threads that have been moved, closed or otherwise.... I just dont want to be that guy ;)

I do appreciate Sined pimping this of his own free will, but basically wanted to keep any spam to a minimum until the time comes when I can open a new thread saying "This game is done, it might be good.. please check it out in your spare time :)"

Kindly follow the link above and feel free to spam that thread to death, gonna let this one work its way to the grave until I'm ready for that big fingers crossed release thread. Just being mindful of etiquette etc :)

lol - I didn't expect anyone to actually post about that.... :)

This "trailer" is just a wee bit of fun. I needed to get things in a state where I could get an acceptable level of video capture on the PC with some basic editting so I can pop something a bit more substantial up later on to go alongside the submission to xblig.

Turns out it's nearly impossible for me to get the game captured at 60fps on my rig :(

There's a thing called Playclaw that's a lot better for performance than Fraps and the usual solutions, worked for me anyway.

Aw come on, sometime during the holidays, isn't that a little harsh for release (as seen on YT comment), but yeah, MS's Certifications and shit, anyways, hope both games come around that time. :3

The game looks really fun, definitely a buy for me.

This might sound weird but I think you gotta like round the corners of the chain bar or put a border around it or something. The vanilla rectangle somehow looks cheap in the trailers? I don't know, the graphic reminds me of crappy browser based flash games.

Probably the weirdest feedback I've had, yes! But hey - criticism is criticism. Let me know if you still think it looks ugly in the actual release please.. There is a border around it - you just can't really see it in the video. I know HUD elements are actually more important than people might give them credit for in shmups. Chains are quite forgiving in this game though, so you can focus on other.. prettier things :-)

Well, do remember it's "just" an indie game and I'm just one guy. So the whole December deadline thing has been set so that I put a bit of pressure on myself to get the thing released instead of just letting it drag on and on. It's more self discipline than anything. If I give it to you now, you'll have an unfinished game. That would be quite bad! :)

Australia really needs to get their act together and push to get XBLIG support. It sucks that I have to jump through more hoops than the amount of fucking around I had to do to get my school formal ticket just to show support for awesome XBLIG stuff like this.

I do hope this gets a lot of support though. It's looking really good, and unlike some past "developers" who have been promoting their stuff here I'm confident that it'll play well, as you n0rtygames are the real deal. ;)

It's not Microsofts fault that Australian law doesn't let you buy and play unrated games. I feel sorry for NZ.

It's as bad as the R18+ for games bullshit. We got a silly religious politician with his head so far up his ass covering the games law industry here and we can't do squat without his okay.

This isn't a substitute for Australia legitimately allowing XBLIG there, but in case it helps someone, here's the old method for getting to play XBLIG in country's it's not available. I have a UK alias that allows me to access XBLIG that way. Haven't researched how easy it would be to get the appropriate MS points for it but I believe there are websites that specialise in such (a forum member linked it to me a long time ago last time I mentioned the subject, forgot to bookmark it though).
