Arcade Stick strategies?

I've recently picked up a Hori Arcade Stick (Soul Calibur II-labeled) for $40.00, and am just wondering if there are any "strategies" involved in handling the stick, especially in movement and all. I'm mostly interested in increasing my response time in movement with the stick to the left and up, because those seem to be weakest for me compared to moving down and right.

Noticed nobody replied here, so I thought I'd chip in. Best stratagy's practice. There's no definite way to hold, or press anything, as everyone's different. It would be impossible to tell anyone how to use a stick. It's kind of like telling an artist how to paint. Just practice your ass off, and try new things. That's how you improve.
