I can understand the reluctance to devote so much floor space to a CRT. My CRT gaming has been relegated to a corner of an unused room. A 25" PVM is a beast and weights a tonne. Certainly doesn't fit in with the decor. Aside from a bit of Mario, the wife hates it.

I made my love of the CRT known early on in our relationship, so she's stuck with it. It was a question in one of our wedding party games. She's actually a pretty good sport about it.

Studio monitors have certainly not been designed with styling as a priority but if you live where 25" B&O sets are available then you can have a low profile good quality CRT that will fit in with any high class decor.

You would if you junked all those scalers! ;)
lol, yes, an XRGB3 and a mini is easily the same footprint as a decent size CRT

Really? My mother rolls her eyes at me fairly frequently, I shall have to... ask her politely not to do it any more. Of course I know you were only pulling my leg

I thought it was agreed anything over 26" and the image quality starts to suffer, ie stops looking so sharp on CRT displays?

Im a seriously considering buying a new 26" CGA arcade monitor and then getting is housed in a TV case. Just so i can have a brand new CRT. I have a 28" Hantarex CT 28 Eq monitor, a part of me will die the day that decideds to give up the ghost

It can do but it does depend on the quality of the tube and chassis to begin with. There are a number of caveats to that one. Size though isn't always a deal breaker.

After inspecting over 1200 TV sets, let me warn you that 26" TVs are pretty rare in Europe (unlike in the US where they're considered 25"). They had some popularity in the 70/80's but then most CRT manufacturers abandoned the size in favour of 25". I do have a couple of 26" tubes found in TVs from the 90's but they're very rare. You won't be able to fit a 26" tube in a 25" case.
