Espgaluda 2 actually has really good survival difficulty in the form of the all Zesshikai challenge and like was said its scoring system is amazing. But Futari is probably still the better value for your money. 1.5 Maniac and BL God are basically Espgaluda 2 lite and 1.5 Ultra is the game's version of Ketsui's Ura loop. I think you'd love it.Cagar wrote: Why is everyone suggesting Futari?
I'm interested in espgaluda 2 because of epic scoring videos, but I guess it has no replay value in terms of survival?
EDIT: Oh, and is DFK 1.5 worth it if I've got the black label already?

If you don't have Ketsui, then Ketsui.Cagar wrote:What game should I get next for my J360?
I've got DFKBL right now
Espgaluda 2 is another good choice.
I don't get along very well with Futari, but a lot of people here seem to like it, so it could also be a good choice.
Re: Question thread
Anyone used both the Hori and Madcatz pads and recommend either in particular?

Re: Question thread
I've got one of these. D-Pad on it is great for shmups, very solid and precise, although you have to get used to the slightly repositioned face buttons. Also, even at the lowest setting the analog stick is super sensistive and the deadzone is tiny; there's a ghosting issue with older models of the pad where the analog stick would register inputs on their own due to tiny deadzone. The one I got from Amazon had the newer model number on the box with the issue supposedly fixed, although I've seen it move the cursor in Futari's menu by itself when left alone. Tried it in-game by not touching the stick, when it happens (like maybe once every 10 minutes if that) it moves at most a few pixels to the side, so it doesn't affect gameplay honestly, still worth a mention though.Marc wrote:Anyone used both the Hori and Madcatz pads and recommend either in particular?
Haven't tried Madcatz though; it's probably cheaper, might be worth a try, especially one of their fightpads where the D-Pad is the main input.

Another AV newbie question. Are VGA ports bi-directional? If you have a VGA port on your computer, does it only output information, or can it accept information as well?

Bummer. Only input on my notebook is HDMI, and it doesn't seem to play nice with my SCART -> HDMI scaler.

Re: Question thread
Sorry for the bump, but don't have a good place to ask otherwise:
The wikipedia entry for the original Cotton game mentions a Famicom port, but I can't find any information about it. No mention in the HG101 article or info on google. Even failed to find a ROM. Does it really exist?
Also, do all versions of Cotton loop? Someone mentioned the game looping in a Strategy thread but you never know with older games that have half a dozen ports.

Re: Question thread
I've never heard of Cotton on Famicom, and I imagine I would have if it existed. There's no mention of it on any list I can find either, seems it exists only in that Wikipedia article.

The HDMI connection on your notebook is output only as well, sorry to say.Blackbird wrote:Bummer. Only input on my notebook is HDMI, and it doesn't seem to play nice with my SCART -> HDMI scaler.
If you want to get video into your computer, you'll need a capture device.
Re: Question thread
Which mode (besides the obvious 'novice' mode) of DDP Resurrection would you recommend to a beginner? And which style should I play?
Kinda overwhelmed by the options

Re: Question thread
360 Mode, go for a Strong-style 1-ALL.
Arrange B might also be a good choice since the difficulty adapts to how well you're doing.
I'd recommend trying out some chaining though, at least for the first two stages in 360 mode to see if you like it. Perhaps download a replay or two of each style from the leaderboards and see which one suits you best.

Re: Question thread
Learning how your hyper works will make the game easier.
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=40656
There's methods for quickly charging it at the top of the screen, and recharging a hyper in boss fights if you point blank the boss while invulnerable when you first activate a hyper
I'd go into more detail but its way past my bed time, if you watch some replays you'll see what I mean

Still pretty unplayable in MAME, you want to emulate the console ports. I recommend:mesh control wrote:How functional is Taito G-Net emulation?

Re: Question thread
I'll give PCX2 a whirl.
I was worried it may add a bunch of lag, but we'll see.

Re: Question thread
Which shmups are available for WonderSwan? I know of Judgement Silversword / Cardinal Sins and Run=Dim. Is there anything else?
Re: Question thread
No, that's it. Those are the only two shmups for the system.

Man, the obviousness of this is cringeworthy. What kind of goof off purposely searches out and bumps a thread simply because I recently created this one?Friendly wrote:Anybody?

Glad I'm blocked so you can't read this and the other members can revel in what a nobjockey you are.
Mods, you can lock my thread if you like, no biggie. I wasn't aware of this one and it was created with good intentions, but both aren't required.

Uh nope, it wasn't me that bumped it. Was Kollision. My comment re: it not being necessary to duplicate the Mamoru thread is the reason this one got bumped though.adversity1 wrote:Um, you did the exact same thing with the Mamoru-kun thread dude, lol.Skykid wrote:Man, the obviousness of this is cringeworthy. I actually discovered another WonderSwan game that has some shmup elements: Dicing Knight.Ghegs wrote:No, that's it. Those are the only two shmups for the system.

It's basically Zelda/roguelike meets shmups.
From the creators of Hitogata Happa, Gundemonium Recollection, etc.
However, it's crazy rare and goes for lots of money.
