Wow, that's awesome. So you had some sort of special NES, SNES and GENESIS that could be turned off at any time and resume exactly where you left off? Mine didn't have that, unfortunately.mesh control wrote:NES, SNES, GENESIS, any cartridge based game offered that.

Driveclub sounds like really awesome concept.

Re: PS4 Announcement Tonight
Knack was a weird as hell game to show off for the first PS4 game ever. The artstyle is really dreadful - sub-sub-Dreamworks - and it's not anything impressive to look at.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

I, for one, am thrilled about the prospect of playing Pimpslapper 3000 3D on my computer 15 years from now.

They should have stopped after laying down the basics for the new PS network thoughts... (I bought it and got excited).
The new networking features sound like great features, "new" games and stuff are non-exciting so far...

You missed most of it. The presentation has been running for 2 hours. Right now they are showing Bungie's new game, Destiny.ciox wrote:It's really late but I might end up watching this, hissing at Metzen atm.

Destiny looks terribly generic, it has the graphical horsepower but I didn't see anything inspiring at all, looked like a mashup of random 3d stills from CGSociety or something...with a gun pointing at them.
Re: PS4 Announcement Tonight
I wonder if there's a reason they didn't actually show the PS4... I wonder if it might not have a disc drive.
Re: PS4 Announcement Tonight
And it's over. The last message was "PS4 - Coming Holiday 2013".
Unfortunately, PS4 won't have PS3 BC, as expected.
I assume its design is not finalized yet. Of course PS4 will have a BD drive. Most likely BD XL compatible (which would be necessary for 4k video).ZellSF wrote:I wonder if there's a reason they didn't actually show the PS4... I wonder if it might not have a disc drive.

Oh well, I will hang onto my 80GB PS3 that also plays PS1 and PS2 games

Re: PS4 Announced for Holiday 2013 Release
The only way I could sit through this was with the Giant Bomb commentary going.
I feel like I'm more likely to go Sony than Microsoft this time around but all that really matters are the exclusives. Unfortunately, none of the games shown here looked like anything I might care about except possibly the Dragon's Dogma sequel, but that trailer didn't really show much.

Re: PS4 Announcement Tonight
Can you explain what this means? I deleted my post because I thought you were saying Vita could play PS4 games, meaning they had the same architecture, but clearly that is BS. So what is this 'remote play' thing you are talking about?Friendly wrote:Oh nice, EVERY PS4 game will be playable on PS Vita (hopefully lag-free) via their new remote play.

Well, been trawling the web for info, and there really isn't much more to tell. I mean, the Wii U was destined for failure from the announcement pretty much, but at least the announcement was halfway interesting because of the interface.
Those brave enough to offer an opinion on the PS4 announcement echo the general sentiment of the following unenthused articles:
PS4 Is Sony’s Last Stand, And It’s Wasting It On A Tired Strategy That Ignores How The Gamer Is Changing
and This looks familiar
Regarding second hand games, I got this from Techradar:
"The rumours suggest that Sony is going in the same direction as Microsoft in that it wants to kill off the second-hand games market. Current industry wisdom suggests that future PS4 games might be tied to your Sony Entertainment Network account and will thus have no resale value. That's a similar approach as used by PC developers using Steam so we reckon this is a likely development. Doesn't mean we're happy about it, though."
Now GAME can feel more comfortable about last year's liquidation.
Personally, I think this is the last stab at console formats as they are. I don't see physical media outlasting this gen because this gen is shaping up to be a damp squib. Sony failed to adapt their strategy in any way and are offering even less than with the PS3 (seriously, no-one has a Vita to use as a remote device and the PS Move is an inferior technology).
All it will take is the OUYA to be successful (and a $10 mil Kickstarter says it already is) and the entire home console industry will flip on its head, prompting Apple to storm in with a similar unit packing games that match the graphical oomph and online connectivity of current gen with a superior content delivery system.
The future is most certainly dull. 16bit is king, long live 16bit!

Look at this screen of Diablo Fangame: Playstation Edition. It looks like the systems designer on Secret of Mana went crazy, took a hooge hit of meth, designed the equip screen, then promptly tore all his skin off.
On a srs note, if someone released an Ouya-kind of a device for ~$70, without making it sucky, and it had the backing of actual, you know, games, I would actually be interested in it.
Supposedly there's been a confirmation that there isn't a used games lock.Jeneki wrote:They didn't have the intestinal fortitude to confirm or deny anything related to used games?

Well I kind of hope you're right, if it stops phone games becoming the norm in homes (I don't want to crash a party and find a bunch of fuckos playing Angry Birds on the TV) but... what, you think it will be an outright failure?BryanM wrote:hahhaahahaa ooohhhh... don't do that to meh. Re: PS4 Announced for Holiday 2013 Release
Well, in its thread we get into it a little more, and SA thinks it's amusing enough to warrant GoldMine status (a thread I've read in its entirety, btw. About half that forum expects the thing to melt down instantly when turned on.). The highlights I can remember go like this:
* You can already output your phone to a TV and plug in a controller. Which means you probably already own an Ouya. A superior version, that's mobile.
* Their official controller. The panel that slides off to put in the batteries is in contact with the palm of your left hand. Additionally: the batteries aren't rechargeable. In 2013, lolwut.
* No exclusives to justify actually owning one.
There's no way they're breaking Wonderswan kind of sales records, but it's fun to watch and make fun of them. God bless'em.
Eh, jump back into the other thread if you need the lulz.
