That is basically the reason. MAMEdev broke their 8 year rule for the inclusion several months ago, but CAVE wasn't happy and made them remove them.
Wait a minute, I thought the inclusion rule was 3 years?

If it's 8 years than I think the original Ibara, Mushihime-sama, Espgaluda II should become available if the C&D didn't effectively bar MAME for listing those games permanently. They were released in 2004-2005.

If it's three years then woudn't games up to Akai Katana be covered?

But the whole issue occurred because well I can imagine the rule being broke could have threatened Cave, whose bread and butter is shmups.

But about 4.0 was there even a 64-bit version? I'm curious as I don't remember there being one.

Great update. Thanks for your hard work. One little nitpick is that the Dodonpachi Arrange hack seems to be missing from the list now, but there's always the next version.

Game specific additions: Autosword feature for Mars Matrix which is mapped to button 2, it behaves just like the Dreamcast version.

3 years is a minimum requirement but it's not a black and white situation where if a game is 3 years old it can get added no matter what. Golden Tee Fore games older than 3 years got passed over for many extra years because they remained popular in bars and other companies have sent requests about games not being added besides Cave. You just didn't hear about it. The letter from Cave to mame was not a C&D and didn't mention any games, I don't think. It was a request about removing the hardware from being emulated which was still in use for new games. And the way Cave re-releases games over and over makes it even more muddy.

The Mushihimesama release for X360 is a good example.

All of them if you wait long enough. Mushihimesama released on PS2 then redone on X360, I think they did that for DOJ too, there is a thread going today about re-releasing Pork/Sweets. The new box set is a re-release of almost everything. They did a platinum re-release of Futari. I don't have a full list handy. They resell more than any company I've ever seen. Has any other company re-released a bigger percentage of their titles? And for sure the next successful system will have them all released again unless they cave in and go ahead with a PC/Steam (re)lease. Actually that probably still wouldn't stop it. There were GOD re-releases too. They are the kings of re-release.

Do console ports affect the timer? I figured they wouldn't as most have things the arcade never would have.

If Cave games got a stream release and the requirements didn't end up stupidly high, people would buy it.

There aren't hardcoded rules around that that I know of but when you've gotten a letter asking for their removal, I don't exactly think a console port on top of it is going to speed things up.

A bug I found with 4.2: it seems with some games the autofire rates default to something ridiculous like 3987439839839589358 or -293293923, which then snaps to either 0 or 99 meaning 96 arrow presses to get it back to normal in the UI, and some games list their inputs twice (like Mars Matrix, maybe something to do with the custom system thing?).

Since we're dragging this subject of the CV1000 games up again, I post the exact rule from docs/mame.txt in "IV. Deriative Works":
* Do not add games which are more recent than 3 years old, or which are
still being sold new by the company that produced them. MAME is not
intended to be a platform that competes with arcade games that are still
being actively sold.
So 3 years + loosely (not hardcoded, like Muchi Muchi Spork already said) however long it takes for Nimitz/MAMEdev/whoever decide that Cave's flogged rehashes of their games long enough to be emulated.

Honestly I can't say I'd be too fussed whether or not the CV1000 games get included unless a dynarec option is made available: short of that and MetalliC's slowpoke edition hacks that's as good as it's going to get regarding performance, unless the Demul team suddenly decide to make this public. I don't think we'll be seeing any of these happen any time soon though.

Yeah I'm mainly interested for curosity's sake (and that it'd likely reduce most of those games' obscurity) as I think I'd go slamming into the spec ceiling on my laptop with the great bulk of them.

i'll share my opinion and criticism about Shmupmame 4.2:

first of all i thank nimitz for creating a new filtered mame version with only 7,300 sets. i cant believe that nobody got the idea for doing this, since every version after mame 0.140 got so damn unbearably slow. yes even slow on a damn i5 cpu that can be considered as high-end.
because of this fact i was sticking to mame 0.130u1 for years now. unbelievable. to be able to play newer arcade games i was using fba and using 2 emulators at the same time was a little annoying.

what im really missing are features of MAME Plus! Plus! Kaillera, like being able to use Image enhancement filters like hqx, playing online with friends over kaillera and viewing button input which is especially useful for fighting games. im glad that things like cheats, command.dat, hiscore.dat and history.dat is supported at least with the old style GUI.

im mostly playing games like SF and MvC and less input delay is a blessing. games do feel different even its marginal.

so im making a request for a Shmupmame version which is based on MAME Plus! Plus! Kaillera (with the old style GUI and additional features). that would be overall the best MAME version ever :D

thanks for reading this nimitz. great work. you rock!

I have a question: Is there a reason why Blazing Lasers isn't included on the list? I know it's likely a TG-16 rip, but I would like to know anyways.

Apparently there was a Blazing Lasers prototype arcade board, didn't get commercialized though.

As for Kaillera, this isn't something I use so I have no interest in making such a version unfortunately.

There might be some minor bugs in the autofire code (like those wacky integers) but nothing that breaks functionality.

as for CV1000, I don't know yet, I recently discovered that a large percentage (25%) of shmupmame downloads are from Japan and I really don't want to hurt Cave's business in any way so it might still take a while.

I still have some lag from time to time. Don't know if there maybe is my gpx card or RAM that is the problem.
But have a question, is G-Stream playable and emulated well? Cause when I try it it runs super slow and the music sounds like a broken record :D

Also how is Taito G-Net and Sony ZN-1 and 2 working out. Playable or just slow?
Sorry if off-topic

G-Stream works well and is playable, same as G-Net and ZN. G-Net lacks sound though.

Get a better computer 8)

Yeah I think it maybe would be the time to get a new setup :)
AMD Phenom 8400 triple-core 2.10
3GB RAM
NVIDIA Gefore 8500GT! It has a 4,7 rating in Windows 7.
Also maybe if I get a new setup I would be able to play Ibara for once

Old Psikyo games have duplicate entries in the input config menu, and if you don't map both the game doesn't recognize that input. Also, Sengoku Ace displays some weird numbers on screen when you input something.

Actually, only one entry should matter, I should remove the useless duplicates in the next version.

Looked at Sengoku Ace, I only get weird numbers on the character select screen. But it seems the game is still as laggy so must be a bug with the offset I used, I'll have to fix that.

use clrmamepro http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/ to rebuild your rom(s) into a correct set for shmupmame4, which should make it work, maybe. you could also do a raindance which is probabaly equally effective for tackling the ever evolving MAME compatibility issues yr roms will face.
