We all know that Wii can be problematic with YUV and some (many ?) display / scalers, so what if we could figure a new way (likes PS2 + RGB cable + Extron) ?
Software trick ? Hardware trick ?
Insert your ideas .
I'm sure people said the same thing about the Gamecube component cable, until someone read the specs of the DAC and noticed progressive scan and RGB could be simultaneously enabled. Do we know for sure that the Wii's cannot?
VGA mods for the Cube DAC were available within weeks after the cable's release. Wii has been out for years. Of course I have no idea if anybody actually looked into the hardware, but what were are talking here are output modes directly available from the GPU - with RGBs only available with the FW patched to PAL regions.
The Cube is running in digital YUV mode all the time anyway, so the machine itself doesn't even notice if you configure your cable to RGB, so RGB in 31khz is easily available. On the Wii the available output is software controlled and while - at least - RGsB - easily be possible, the FW just doesn't offer it and locks the output to 15khz modes when RGB is enabled at the same time.
