It's normal. I use a camera to save all high scores.

yeah, a camera is nice, or a tiny little whiteboard where you can write down all your high scores right next to each other.

Yep, I use my handy digital camera to take a pic for personal best high scores for those older arcade Jamma PCBs that don't save such scores upon being powered down for the night.

Some arcade motherboards are known to save such high scores if they have an on-board backup battery:

All the Seibu Kaihatsu SP1 mobos do (provided that you don't remove the booted up SP1 cart and load up with a different one).

Taito's G-Net mobo does save both high scores and high score initials directly to the Taito G-Card cartridge itself for posterity. How cool is that?

Taito Type X/X+/X2 does the same thing in regards to saving such scores 'n' initials as well.

Neo-Geo MVS with it's on-board backup battery provides such score/initials saving benefits to peruse at your disposal.

Even the Cave SH-3 powered PCBs have such saving functionality for both scores & initials (i.e. Dodonpachi Dai Fukkatsu version 1.5, DDP-SDOJ, Ibara, Mushihime-tama, etc.)
