DVDs will play on it, but only after about half a dozen times of seeing a message telling me that a memory unit has been removed (??), and that the console needs to restart.
I use the XBOX 360 controller as my remote; would it help if I got the official 360 remote?

On the newer 360 Slims, DVD playback is smooth & flawless. I haven't encountered any DVD playback issues whatsoever with those newer 360 consoles (both JPN & USA regions). Of course, you can use either the 1st gen (all white color scheme) or 2nd gen (all black colred scheme) 360 DVD remote (and gain access to dedicated specialized DVD button functionality if so desired). I own both official Microsoft 360 DVD remotes and the 1st gen model gives you more specialized buttons to work with compared to the simplified 2nd variant remote setup with less buttons to work with.
The optional & pricier Logitech based Harmony Universal 360 Remote (circa 2006) really takes the cake in terms of turning on your entire A/V gear + 360 DVD player functions also via a single button press. It has a slick backlit LCD screen GUI to see what functions are user-selectable. A complete set includes the remote, the specialized Harmony to USB programming cable & a CD-Rom installation disc for both PCs & Macs. It's a pretty high-tech 360 DVD remote with plently of bells & whistles and then some.

I get the same thing every time. I heve to start the console with the disc already in (insert, turn off, turn on) WTF!
I have slim 4GB, with official remote (black)
I'm reading around and it seems we have a corrupt file somewhere.

Yeah, I have absolutely no idea what's causing this problem. My 360 is a slim 4gig model.antron wrote:dave4shmups wrote:DVDs will play on it, but only after about half a dozen times of seeing a message telling me that a memory unit has been removed (??), and that the console needs to restart.

Do you use a USB to increase the mermoy liek I do. Some are saying this is where the problem is.

EDIT-I found the problem! I disabled auto play, and now I have no problems! Don't ask me what the heck that has to do with memory, but that's what you need to do if you're having this issue.

I'm using a JPN region 360 Slim with a 250GB HDD setup & with "auto play" disabled. As for the USA region 360 Slim, with a 320GB HDD & auto play is enabled. So far, no issues with DVD playback with either console.

Re: Issue playing DVDs on my XBOX 360...
it's not the playback. it's the starting, and most likely related to using a USB drive (prob an f'n CSS key issue,
)
edit: neither formatting nor removing has resolved the problem.
edit2: clearing the system cache seems to have fixed the problem.
