Yeah the components are actually. You pay for the brand. True of most things I guess though Apple do like to rip us off more than most, especially if you buy models with larger memory.psoslayer wrote:iPhones are cheap? lol whut...
Still OT

Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
I don't really have any comment on the pricing, but as they've released several games already, you basically know what you're getting, so there's not really going to be any surprises when it's finished and plays similar to their other titles.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
True of most things manufactured in the millions, not even slightly true when you're making ~150 at a time. Nobody seems to have any concept of how much it costs to produce a low run of physical items anymore. One of my projects is on hold because I can't afford to have someone make some holes in a thin sheet of metal.Wonderbanana wrote:Yeah the components are actually. You pay for the brand. It's not like this is MVS only. I have no problem waiting a bit longer for a Dreamcast disc.

Totally agree dude. Quote above was very much OT. Still didn't NG save a few bob by dealing with a certain character involved in quite a bit of shannigans recently?system11 wrote:True of most things manufactured in the millions, not even slightly true when you're making ~150 at a time. I'm kind of with trap15 on the price thing, but I recall the FSF saying Actually, we encourage people who redistribute free software to charge as much as they wish or can. Ultimately it comes to a matter of economics: "You can charge nothing, a penny, a dollar, or a billion dollars. It's up to you, and the marketplace, so don't complain to us if nobody wants to pay a billion dollars for a copy." Unfortunately I find the cost of NG:DEV products a bit prohibitive even for games which look worthwhile. 'course if I had more disposable income...

Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
I'd love the MVS version to be more in my price range (yes - that means much cheaper!), but I'm not surprised at all that it costs so much to have limited runs produced of boxes, art, stickers, electronic components etc, etc.
I think it's amazing NG.Dev have a workable business based on arcade/old-gen console products in this day and age. They're keeping afloat, so obviously their prices work for enough people. Well done NG.Dev, I say.

lol someone has to pay the workers that produce these parts too. And if I pay for the brand, how come other smarphones are not much cheaper?
In the end yo have no damn clue about the industry and production costs.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
That's a bit too harsh IMO. You really have to consider their enormous improvement form game to game. Where you can more or less call Last Hope an ambitious amateur project, Fast Striker really felt more like a professional game. It's an outstanding work, especially if you consider that they only consist of two people...Wonderbanana wrote:Rubbish. nGDEV are amateur devs, pcb argument is irrelevant.
Then came Gunlord, which absolutely blew my mind and is still by far their best game up to now. I really want to play a shmup which is on par with Gunlord's quality. If Neo XYX can offer me that, I'll be all over it.
If 400€ is justified for an MVS? I for myself would never buy an MVS for 400€, no matter what game. But then again paying 1500€ for the brand new CAVE game is even worse IMO. If I would've had the money, I'd probably don't care though. The point is: I don't.
Dreamcast port is a no-brainer though. You don't have to buy the MVS version and can still play their games. This way the collectors are happy (they wouldn't be happy, if the games were cheaper. Collectors WANT to pay huge $$$) and the gamers are too.

No Sir, for reasons I have no intention of disclosing I actually do. There is plenty of publically available information, look it up before making wild uneducated statements. Those workers btw are the same ones working all the hours under the sun for a pittance, the same place where suicide is unfortunately common. Even on a basic level in terms of memory, the consumer is being ripped off. Not the best article but for example: http://www.androidauthority.com/why-do- ... es-113596/psoslayer wrote:Wonderbanana wrote:Yeah the components are actually. You pay for the brand. @plasmo Points taken, perhaps I am being too harsh. Good luck with the testing, genuinely hope the game is cool.

All products are cheaper to produce than what the endconsumer pays. It's stanadard economy. Only an total idiot would complain.

This thread is off topic enough, for my part my apologies all. I won't make anymore posts on this subject.psoslayer wrote:All products are cheaper to produce than what the endconsumer pays. It's stanadard economy. Only an total idiot would complain.
And yes mostly businesses don't sell at a loss unless follow on sales provide the profit (not that uncommon but best avoided if possible) but it wasn't even remotely my point. Your responses show enough about who lacks intelligence but given time you can educate yourself and perhaps grow up a little. Take it from one older in years, if you go through life without taking umbrage at being mugged, you'll always be a victim.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Bingo. I'm hoping for the same outcome here. Gunlord is really amazing - and like Plasmo says, is their best game yet. From what I've seen on Neo XYX, I wouldn't be surprised if it's dethrones Gunlord out of the gate.Plasmo wrote:Wonderbanana wrote:\

A shame this thread is getting derailed with iphone talk and MVS prices. Who gives a shit? We got BOBCAT BOMBS incoming!

Hope NGDev adds at least SOME frames of animation. It's still pretty awesome, but some animation will make it one of the best bombs ever.

If you look carefully there is some wavy movement with it, albeit not much else.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Sweet, that's the main thing that was bugging me - not going to study in minute detail a trailer of a beta, but this was glaring.THE wrote:Yeah, the medal stuff is on my to do list. It's just copy'n'paste stuff and will be changed.trap15 wrote: The explosions definitely do feel really weak, and the item pickups also feel off. The giant medals also feel off, in that they are partially player-seeking, but not entirely. The seeking algorithm looks far too basic, and feels low-quality.
It will get some kind of collect animation too.
Repeating myself, but with such a limited release the aftermarket for the game will be strong (unless it's a real stinker, in which case only completionist collectors will want it). Selling it at purchase price won't be a problem.Paradigm wrote:The fact that people are willing to plonk down €400 for a game of this quality absolutely blows my mind.
If there's one positive thing (and that's a big if) I can say about NG Dev Team, it's that they've done a wonderful job finding a niche market to exploit.
Re: New NEOGEO / Dreamcast game: "NEO XYX" NG: DEV.TEAM 2013
Did MTV just scoop everyone with the release schedule?
http://m.mtv.com/geek/videogamesarticle ... g-in-june/
Maybe this was said before (I'm not gonna go through 5 pages of arguments about whether this game is "worth it" or not) but it looks like April for MVS, and June for Dreamcast.

Here’s a quirky tidbit for the day: a German indie studio by the name of NG: Dev. Team is making a bullet-hell shoot-’em-up called “Neo XYX” for the long-dead Neo Geo and Dreamcast. According to Indie Statik, the game is based on a 1988 shmup called “Truxton,” by Toaplan.
According to NG:Dev.Team’s listing, “Neo XYX”’s pixel graphics were specifically designed to evoke the late-80’s heyday of hardcore sci-fi scrolling shooters. The game’s scoring system is based on chaining together series of enemy-dropped medals, and bombs are built by collecting power-ups. Should you survive long enough to face them, there are six sub-bosses guarding each of “Neo XYX”’s six levels.
The absolute best part about the game, though: when you inevitably pilot your ship into one of the game’s thousands of brightly-hued bullets, it goes up in a puff of green smoke shaped like the head of a tiger. I hope the same thing happens to my body when I eventually shuffle off this mortal coil.
The Neo Geo version of “Neo XYX” will be available in April, apparently, but it looks like only the Dreamcast versions of the game available from the official store: the basic price is €32, but there are limited and collector's’ editions available for €42 and €88, respectively. You can’t put a price on nostalgia, or being one of only 300 people in the world with copies of a Dreamcast indie shmup made in 2013.

Nope Mr. Jeffycakes. The release dates are on the NG Dev web shop.

Any indication that the bullet patterns will get more manic than what we see in the trailer?

All the same, confusing the bomb for the death explosion made me chuckle.
Though, if a game did have your ship explode in such a manly display (preferably with this sound cue overlaid), surely that game would be the greatest thing ever made. But hey, second-place ain't bad!

What's funny about that quote is that the writer needs someone else to tell him XYX is based on Truxton... and what Truxton is. The Hellwigs' standard approach is to copy a classic game and stick it on a type of cartridge that collectors will pay disproportionately large prices for. The quality of the games aren't too important to their target market, so it would actually be counterproductive if they were good.soupbones wrote:Good god in heaven.
