i guess i just had luck, i bought one dragon saber pcb a few months ago from sophia corp japan, sold it to another buyer a little while later and then i missed the game so much and it was pure luck that i did find it here on the board a few days ago for a decent price together with its prequel dragon spirit.

Argh, got a Sky Shark pcb off lolBay, but it was packaged poorly and some of the chips ripped off. I found little pieces of rom-kibble all over the bottom of the box. Seems to run still, but has scrambled graphics. Sending it back today. So that's two duds in a row, after that bootleg 1945.

I guess from now on I'll be looking for my pcbs just on forums, from people who know what they're doing.

I've gotten a few of those. After trying to wrap my head around the situation by further questioning the seller, I was convinced that they were nearly moronic or a total liar. Glad I was able to repair most of the stuff from that seller, but still mind blowing.

You could use a set of damaged screw removers (basically a sharpened drill bit with a reversed thread), these cost about $15 for a pack of them at your local home hardware store. Only problem is, while they'll *definitely* get the screw out- they'll also most certainly destroy the head in the process.

I've seen some other various kits that come with a kind of resin/glue, the idea being that you find a slotted screwdriver that fits inside the stripped head of your damaged screw- add a drop of the goop they give you in the kit (while holding the driver in place), wait a while for it to dry, then remove the screw that way. Can't remember what that stuff is called though, and I have no idea if it'll make a mess or not.

If you have a spare cartridge somewhere that you can pull a set of good screws from and don't mind sacrificing the old ones, then one of those screw remover bits would probably be the easiest way to go.

Goddamn. That blue cart is fucking sexy.

How dirty are the contacts?
I find simply isopropyl alcohol & q-tips works wonders.
And you wouldn't have to open the cart.

Yep, rubbing alcohol & Q-Tips will clean up those dirty MVS contacts really nice. Of course, it's more common to see the solid all-black colored Blazing Star MVS carts these days (with the slick original holographic BS sticker label intact) but one with a blue translucent MVS cart shell is mighty fine in my book -- hence the stripped screws by the previous owner/seller of it.

Out of curiosity, how exactly did they ship them? Did they seriously think it was that difficult to securely bubble wrap the things and make sure they were in a decent box, packed so it didn't rattle? O_o

Many moons ago, I had bought a DDP PCB from a South Korean eBay seller and he went out of his way to wrap it in newspaper and adequately packed with elaborate folded newspaper as a cushion for the long voyage from South Korea to the U.S. I was blown away by how meticulous the paper folding was -- some simple but very sturdy origami if you will. And no bubblewrap was used period.

As far as I recall, it was light newspaper in a priority box. Multiple PCB's in the box. Not only were the boards I got pretty knackered, but there were chips from other boards floating around in the box  Chips, come to find out, were from other boards he had offered to sell me that "just needed a chip replaced." As mentioned earlier, dude was either clueless or a complete liar.

Today I obtained a Japanese R-Type Leo PCB, in a cab. Had to collect in person and fight some vicious stairs. Thought the PCB was a bootleg on first glance because of the colour, but no - it was just 14 years of cab dust. The people who owned the cabinet didn't even know you could open the back door, they'd just been playing Leo that long.

That's awesome. The guy I bought a Raiden cab from was a collector who ran out of space and was selling some off. He also had an MVS cab, so I asked him which games he had for it. That totally blew his mind, as he didn't know you can change games in those.

Nice.

I didn't realise Leo had a world version at all? Mine's also JP, but I assumed that was as standard.

Edit: And a quick google tells me I had no idea! So is there a value difference between the two?

JP version has checkpoints, World/US does not.

Unless the difficulty was tweaked (and I haven't noticed anything significant in that regard), the World version is also a touch easier because unlike the JP version's tap to shoot, hold to launch, the World version uses a two-button system with one button to tap to fire (no autorapid sadly) and another button that deploys and retracts the launcher with each press). So you can keep shooting while they've been launched.

Haha, I've had the exact same thing. There was a nice "seam" running down the middle of the PCB!

After a forced hiatus from buying PCBs too often, I'm back on it. Not a shmup, but the original Drift Out PCB (with copied art) in lovely condition from cools.

Minor graphical glitching on the text layer. Nothing too serious (I can still read everything), but something I'll probably try to fix sooner or later.

I got this lot during the weekend, all damaged pcbs for a decent price. Most of them originals. I could repair a Vendetta that had a bad Mask ROM and a broken trace, and a Gokujou Parodius so far, will have tons of work to do for a while.

The parodius board had very well hidden trace corrosion below one mask ROM, had to remove two Mask ROMs to find it.

Today:
Shao-Lins Road - already have two of these but this one has an instruction card, which is something so cool and rare I've never seen one before.
Hi Sho Zame - like most Flying Shark boards, it is dead. It was sold as dead, I wanted the original instruction card pair that came with it. Spent about 3 hours on it tonight, the game is mostly fixed now.
G-Taste Mahjong - I learned enough of how to play this to get them stripping. Win.
