Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
I've mulled over this again and again myself. While I haven't picked up the PCB yet I have laid out the pros and cons.
Saturn Port
+ Extremely accurate port
+ Options menus
+ Arrange Soundtrack
+ Reduced directional input lag
+ Still easily available for $100-150
- some extra loading
- can't play it in a cab (as easily)
- saturn's stock virtual stick isn't great
PCB
+ Genuine arcade experience
+ Playable in a cab
+ Zakk roms
- has reached insane prices
- has slightly more input lag than many other games
- pcb is somewhat prone to breaking
Any thoughts or corrections? For me it boils down to whether or not I am collecting PCBs of my favorite games to play on a cab, or PCBs of great games that I haven't yet played to death on console.

Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
Out of curiosity, is this also true on other similar Raizing pcbs such as Battle Bakraid and Armed Police Batrider? I haven't had an opportunity to play a pcb of those yet.chempop wrote: - has slightly more input lag than many other games

One other small "minus" for the Saturn port is that you have to unlock the "Wait" option (though you can just credit-feed on an easy difficulty to do it), or else play with reduced slowdown. Still a great port though.

He must be talking about emulation because pcb's don't have input lag.Jeneki wrote:Out of curiosity, is this also true on other similar Raizing pcbs such as Battle Bakraid and Armed Police Batrider? Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
Some Raizing boards do. On Bakraid it stinks on ice. I borrowed the board once and played for about 5 minutes before quitting because of it. I haven't noticed it as much in Garegga for whatever reason but it's not as tight as Cave and other boards.

Super Turbo PCBs (and I assume that all CPS2 games must be the same) have 3 frames of input delay.Dave_K. wrote:He must be talking about emulation because pcb's don't have input lag.
Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
The Battle Garegga PCB has 1 frame of input lag (iirc, due to the way the board handles drawing the various sprite layers) whilst the Saturn port has 0.Dave_K. wrote:He must be talking about emulation because pcb's don't have input lag.Jeneki wrote:Out of curiosity, is this also true on other similar Raizing pcbs such as Battle Bakraid and Armed Police Batrider? CPS2 has 2, I believe.Hagane wrote:Super Turbo PCBs (and I assume that all CPS2 games must be the same) have 3 frames of input delay.Dave_K. wrote:He must be talking about emulation because pcb's don't have input lag.

Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
Another major difference is the slowdown. While the port has zero, the PCB actually has quite a lot, which becomes very helpful. This makes the PCB significantly easier than the port. Parts of stage 6 get quite difficult without the slowdown. Of course everything is still manageable, nothing too bad.

Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
I'm pretty sure the port has got SOME slowdown every now and then, when it gets busy. Certain "bombs" effects gave me that impression.

Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
This. I had few reasons to get rid of Batrider, other than the current value of the board and the input feeling sloppy. Found it very difficult to alternate between Batrider and other gamesMuchi Muchi Spork wrote:Some Raizing boards do. On Bakraid it stinks on ice. I think Sega Saturn Battle Garegga is pretty much the port ever, I think it's benefits far outweigh those of the PCB.
Haven't played Saturn Garegga in a while, but iirc you can unlock the Wait option and turn the PCB slowdown on.Plasmo wrote:Another major difference is the slowdown. Yeah , i thought the port had wait control option , but you have to unlock itAnother major difference is the slowdown. Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
The slowdown you can activate via wait control is far off from the original slowdown iirc.
Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
Worth mentioning that the Saturn arrange soundtrack is REALLY DOPE. It was one of main reasons I wanted the port.
If you're just looking to play/learn/master the game then Mame is the best choice by far. You can use Score Attack mode in the port to practice stages but it always starts you at minimum rank (unless there's some trick I don't know about). Not that I don't advocate purchasing the port, it was the first thing I bought after receiving my Japanese Saturn

Re: Battle Garegga PCB or Saturn Version
The Saturn port is great, but the graphics are a bit better in the PCB version (this is noticeable from the first stage, clouds are pixelated in the Saturn port).
Also the PCB has a more powerful sound output.
