XBOX1 mame (@480p)->HDPRO (via component)->Super Emotia!

Post by rugdoctor »

Hi,

Thanks to SGGG2 for the hardware, works a treat and Fudoh for the wiring up and setting up of monitor.

A mess...but I done it in a rush.

Image

BIG Thanks Fudoh for the pins config, advice and monitor setup configuration. Ripped a VGA connector out from a dead monitor and manually soldered R,G,B and S to that and ends with a SCART 21 pin out. All this to accomodate the BNC to VGA cord coming out from the emotia.

Image

Need to hot glue it to make sure it stays in place.

And the result with my stinky camera skills...

For the last 2 pictures the image was changing very quickly...

I suspect I can do better with the iscan from sggg2, but for now, the tests were positive.

Any reason why you didn't just get hold of a RGB SCART cable then for your XBOX.... would of saved all the gas and several boxs in the chain?

as long as your source delivers native 480p already, you're doing better the way you've set it up now.

Yes, mame on xbox set at 480p. Definitely noticing reduced details (partially masked by scanlines) when outputting through the emotia...but beats flickering.

Is there any advantage to upscale from the hdpro on resolutions higher that 640 x 480? Will it introduce lag??

can i use that cable (or maybe building one) to connect the emotia to the scart input on my screen ?

Did you try to connect the xbox through vga directly, with the frozen cable, no more hdbox needed

That was the cable I wanted to get locally, but outta luck, so I built one. Basically I only have a BNC to VGA cable (R,G,B,V,HV) and a SCART to 6 x RCA (none of which corresponded to R,G,B or sync. on composite) So I decided to hack that scart cable and rip a female vga connector from a dead dvr machine and hence forth made my frankeincable. Sorta ott way to make sure which signal go where.

Frozen cable not an option as the the tube I am running is a SDTV...a nice idea nonetheless,

im going to order that cable, bnc 2 scart ^^

For the frozen cable, it outputs vga (480p), not necessaraly 720p . you plug it on the emotia, then on your screen/cab. So no need to upscale the xbox with the hdbox. Maybe you'll get a better picture with this setting.

The only difficulty, being able to output vga on xbox..seems to be a pain in the .... ^^

are you sure that the cable is BNC to Scart and not Scart to BNC ? In the later case you'd have re-solder on the connections inside the Scart plug to make the cable work on the Emotia.

Yes, mucking around the bios it would seem. I think I will fix it at 480p, cause thats the emulators native resolution and fiddling with any natives will just open up more cans of worms.

I'm a tad confused in that.... RGB is RGB on a SCART PINOUT whether it be input or output.

Edit: Just looked at the picture and saw it includes sync! Forget the above as I just thought it was pure RGB. Bellend!!!

description says :

"Câble BNC --> Péritel, 4 x BNC mâles, Péritel mâle (RVB + Synchro composite P20), 2 m
Pour relier les sorties BNC fournissant des signaux RVB + Synchro composite à une entrée Péritel femelle (Rouge : 15, Vert : 11, Bleu : 7, Synchro composite H+V : 20)."

I think theres no problem with it...i just have to find an emotia now ^^. Fudoh , maybe are you selling an emotia actually ? :D

I don't, but since the release of the SLG3000 eBay has been flooded by Super Emotia units. Never before they've been so easy to find.

Glad you're enjoying it! That actually looks good on a CRT. I was never happy using the emotia with my XRGB for 240p Dreamcast scanlines. The SLG3000 kills it.

Most of ones I've seen have been from tech-industry types, so I think it's just coincidence. I imagine demand is lower.

Encased the makeshift BNC to SCART cable in 3.5" floppy case and added audio capabilities  All taped up ghetto style. Can not imagine a world of insulation solutions without hot glue.

As you can see, all non cabling options are salvage from garbage electronics.

any difference between a Extron Emotia VGA & MAC to Video Converter and a Super Emotia or a GX ? VGA & MAC to Video Converter seems to have the same input/output than the Super Emotia..

a waving like interference that reminds me the MPEG compressions symptom found on DVD movies in scenes at the dawn and others. I notice it most on blue and red colour areas.

solarisation effect caused by to little bandwith (e.g. an 8bit AD converter instead of a 10bit one). Very easy to see on the 360 dashboard, but I never noticed it in any actual 2D games.
Ok, so decided to move this to here, as is the same kind of setup im using: Xbox 1 running msx emulator, component cables, 480p to Cga to vga scaler, to Extron super Emotia.

Tryed also with an DVDO Edge (original), and an xrgb 3 in B1 mode and same results. In any other 2D games i see this, just in this Msx emulator. For example, Aleste Gaiden, the intro screen with the ninja with red shield, the red have that "solarisation effect" http://www.google.pt/imgres?imgurl=http ... Q&dur=1915
