Metal Slug Gachapon

Post by greg »

I can't remember which thread I posted it in (I think it was the "recent acquisitions" thread), but I promised to show you guys my paint up of the remarkably uncolored Metal Slug gachapons. I'm still working on this a bit, but it's mostly done. Here is the Metal Slug 2 tank. Click the images for larger versions. Or else.

Amazing paint job greg! Are these the flesh coloured gashapons? I believe I have a set on the way. Should have had them sent to you first for a commission, lol.

Yeah, the tank comes in a boring green color, and the figures come in a flesh color. I'm putting together a step-by-step video of how I'm painting these up, and I'll upload it to YouTube. I haven't started painting the figures yet, but those will be super fun to do.

Looks good to me. I did read about another size which can be assembled in a garage, pretty huge. Had thought you had gotten that one instead.
This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

That must be a pretty big gachapon. I can't imagine the size of the vending dispenser. ;) Gachapon is the word for "toy in a plastic capsule dispensed from a vending machine." You know, when you twist the lever, it rattles around inside, making a "gacha gacha" noise. I figured most everyone knew what the term meant. There is an unofficial Metal Slug plastic model kit, which I also own, but I have yet to build it.

Thanks! After taking the close-up pictures, I realized some places where I need to touch up the paint a bit. Plus, this past week I've taken it to my schools and let some of my students handle them a bit. It appears I'll need to apply another coat of clear lacquer to harden the paint job. They were pretty careful with them. They didn't know Metal Slug, but one of the teachers did.

Unlike 12 years ago when I first taught Japan, there are so many teachers here in Japan who are into anime, manga, video games, etc. The old guard is retiring, and this new generation of younger teachers is GREAT to work with! The kids seem to appreciate them more, too.

Those look pretty neat, and the careful paint job makes them look like they're supposed to!

Thanks, guys. And Ed has a point: these are gachapon, and we expect gachapon to come pre-colored like they're supposed to. Even though I had fun painting these, I think everyone else has a right to expect a gachapon to come in more than just straight green or straight cream colors. But if going cheap and not coloring them was the only way for these to be released, then we should be thankful that these were even released to begin with.

Although I'd love a tank painted like yours, I have a soft spot for the little flesh coloured gachapon. They remind me of these from my school daze:
