What modern day shmup (whether it be an arcade shmup PCB or console-based shmup) has the best cool looking aesthetic designs that mimick the Designer's Republic stylized designs?
You'd think a simple miminialistic design for the shmup player's main fighter, the small fry enemies, mid-stage bosses & end-stage bosses would be designed to look cool but reduced to their simplest form (with cool imagery and use of cool "glowing neon-based" colors" throughout the stage or level currently in play) along with a new eye-catchy scoring display method (perhaps a futuristic-retro mechanical score dial mechanism or something like that effect) would make for a cool visually appealing new-style shmup.
Suppose if Square/Enix were to make a 2-D true shmup sequel to it's original iS: internal section PSX game, I can see the cool possibilities of new stages with cool 3-D polygonal-based backgrounds along with enemies + bosses to make a new shmup.
Or make a cool high-resolution sprite based shmup (like based on the Guilty Gear series)...
I'd like to see a cool modern-day shmup made based on the old-school ELD "elektro-illumininescent display type of graphics" (based on the early portable tabletop electronic games of 1980's from Nintendo, Coleco, Bandai, etc.) but brought up to date using modern day technology. That would make for a cool retro-stylized shmup game.

Ever notice that no one has yet made a clay stop-motion animated stylized shmup game before? You'd think that someone would've made one by now...it's the 21st century and no shmup has ever been done in clay-mation style period! Sure, you could blend some Japanese anime styled humor along with seriousness for a wacky clay-mation stylized true shmup.
I realize that would take some serious work to animate each frame but if done right, the "end" results would be fucking cool! (Even though the arcade game of Trog comes to mind, it really wasn't a shmup-based game but rather a puzzle-based arcade game to begin with...also the Neverhood games released for the PC and various console iterations was clay-mation based as well).

You might want to stop by the PC Shmups Database at Shoot the Core and download "Platypus."PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Ever notice that no one has yet made a clay stop-motion animated stylized shmup game before?
I've sometimes wondered what that would look like myself, but it's never gonna happen anyways, heh.Or make a cool high-resolution sprite based shmup (like based on the Guilty Gear series)...
