Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Damn. This was the worst episode yet, hooves down. It was simply atrocious. The plot was uninteresting, the jokes were flat, and the music was cringeworthy. Nothing made much sense, the characters were completely off, nothing really worked. Nothing. It’s like a really bad fanfic, in which the only good bits are the shout-outs to far better episodes.

I disagree, "Just for Sidekicks" was for me the best S3 episode yet.

Wasn't my favorite ep, but I liked it.
Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
It wasn't bad. Certainly better than Spike At Your Service. It did feel like the plot was running around like a headless chicken for a few moments, but other than that, it was okay. The CMC tagging along at the second half was icing on the cake.

I get a slight Castlevania vibe from it.

I can see why, and I'd be lying if I said I am not concerned about the future of the series, but I'll wait and see first. Got other more pressing things to work on.drunkninja24 wrote:Oh man, watching all this butthurt over the season finale is delicious

So much for that project.
This is why I repeatedly say, "Keep it private until it's finished, then go public." They put out so much art, music, live streams, blogs, and all that, and then got wrapped up in that fighting tournament. It was all attention the project didn't need, and now it's all but dead.
I was really looking forward to it, too.

Yeah....I wonder why Hasbro waited until now to send the C&D though? I mean, there's no way in hell they DIDN'T know about this project at the very least within this last year.
Maybe it had something to do with the recent Evo donation drive? I dunno.
Still sucks though.
But at least unlike other projects like this, we did get that leaked build, so there is something for people to play still.

It's a known fact that IP owners like to wait until a project is within days of completion to issue their cease and desist. They do this so as to be the biggest dickwaffles they can possibly be.
Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Indeed. CAVE did that with Ketsui Arrange. They sent my C&D the day before I was supposed to release it.Giest118 wrote:It's a known fact that IP owners like to wait until a project is within days of completion to issue their cease and desist. If Hasbro were smart about it, they would make a deal with them: they can continue making it without profit while Hasbro markets it and makes all kinds of money. Everyone wins.drunkninja24 wrote:Yeah....I wonder why Hasbro waited until now to send the C&D though? So... you become a Princess by finishing some dead wizard's poetry. Good to know.
Yeah, I'm upset more at the lack of actual drama surrounding the finale, than at the finale itself. To be honest, it feels like it should end the series, but I know it doesn't, and that leaves me with mixed emotions.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
That episode was horrible marketing. Combined with the Fighting is Magic C&D, I'm thinking there's been a change in management and the new guy is a traditionalist that's ruining all our good graces.

I'm starting to have multiple theories about the episode. And because I'm a sad sad person I am in the process of writing an analysis of why that episode shouldn't have been able to happen in the way it did - it flagrantly breaks several established rules of the 'verse. I can link to it when I'm done.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Honestly, my only complaint with the finale is that it felt rushed, especially in the last few minutes. I loved all the musical bits and really don't have a problem with "twilicorn". I'll be curious to see where they go from here.

Seriously, that's what's started to sicken me about Bronydom. They often use "Love and Tolerance" to excuse what is really just sheep-blind unthinking gullibility.
I mean, you can get onto the Sonic fanbase for how chronically broken it is, but at least their willingness to critically dissect things shows that they're trying to use their brains (whether they're succeeding is another matter).
My own opinion on the episode will depend entirely on how Season 4 plays out. If they end up de-powering Twi or trying to just ignore the wings, then this episode sucks. If it takes the show to new and interesting places however, then this episode is awesome.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Well, Season 3 ended, and it's going to be a while before Season 4 gets started (6-8 months... ugh). How was this season IMHO?
First, the finale. Quite a few songs were in this episode, with some being better than others. None of them were bad, but for me, it was Celestia's ballad that stood out the most. Its melody, mood, and instrumentation made it the most memorable. It also had a Micheal Jackson vibe to it in a way. The episode itself felt a bit rushed, but I honestly don't think a two-parter would have worked. I know a fair number of others think the finale should have been one, but I disagree. There simply wasn't enough there to warrant another 22 minutes worth of material. It would have made the plot too drawn out with a lot of unnecessarily long "my cutie mark was switched" scenes, drawn out sections of Twilight moping about what happened because of her trying the spell, Twlight trying to figure out what happened, etc. Granted, I could have seen an extra 5-8 minutes (a fifth act, basically) being done, but not a full second episode. So yeah, a little rushed, but not overly so. Oh, and Derpy showing up again (multiple times even) was a nice touch too. Not the best episode of the season, but certainly not the worst.
For the season as a whole, I'm kind of mixed on it. Seasons 1 and 2 gave me more episodes I really enjoyed watching; literally, more episodes. Now, I liked "Sleepless in Ponyville," "Too Many Pinkie Pies," "Keep Calm and Flutter On," "Wonderbolt Academy," and a few others, but when compared to the first two seasons, there were just as many that didn't really strike my fancy in a season of 13, as there were in seasons of 26. So, Season 3 felt a bit lacking because of that. The low point for me was "Spike at Your Service," as it just felt off with how it was written. Tied with that, would be the painfully underdeveloped villain of King Sombra. Even Nightmare Moon had a lot more personality and presence, leaving Sombra at the bottom of the list of the big MLP villains.
But, it's all done, and now we wait for this Fall to roll around and see where things go from here. With Meghan hinting at what's to come with the Season 4 having the (as she saw it) second and third act to this finale, it should be interesting to see how the Alicorn aspect continues. Will it stay? Will it be dropped in some way? Will Twilight remain in Ponyville, or will her friends come with/visit her somewhere all the time? How much of the show will change, and how much will remain as it's always been? Who knows, but I'm sure there will be rampant speculation, flame wars, and fan fics about it.
