If they had put an electronic manual in the game, I'd only need to fire up the system when I need to consult it. Downloadable manual means I have to fire up my computer on top of my gaming system if I need to consult something while playing. More energy consumption can't be that beneficial for environment.
You've never been to a print shop, huh?

The same I expect when I buy a newspaper: more than just a web address telling me where to get the information I just paid for.
Totally not answering my question. What information were you expecting to find in the Dead Space 3 manual that would be worth anything in the first place?

Maybe he was looking for a hidden option that made the game worth playing.

I would highly advise anyone considering this game to obtain it elsewhere prior to purchasing it. My opinion is that it is not worth $70 plus whatever the DLC racks up to. This is a very substandard game that reeks of EA and offers very little challenge or anything innovative in the way of story. Compared to the other two games, DS3 is essentially a complete and utter joke.

If games came with a return policy (gee, I wonder why they don't?), I would have returned this thing after the first 2 hours. I've already beaten it and I feel horrible that I spent the money. All I wanted to do was to support the awesome guys who made Dead Space and Dead Space 2, because both were excellent games. Once again, I feel betrayed by the very same industry I used to take pride in supporting and paying for the games I played.

No more. No more.

A nice manual is always a plus. When I see the shitty excuses we get today, I cry inside. I love paging through nicely done manuals and a nice manual is the least they should do when they charge what they're charging now.

Is the fabled "Iron Man" mode in Dead Space 3? I like when games "bare their teeth" like that, ranging from Diablo II to the first Burnout.

How to play the damned game without having to wait for a hint to pop-up on the screen, and what has been changed from DS1 and 2 so I don't fall back on tactics that may not work anymore. Which, I repeat, could have been easily put into the game as an electronic manual just as it was easy to upload to a website (Because everyone on the planet has easy and fast access to the internet, right?), and would be enough for me.

Controls are detailed in an easily available in-game reference (at least it was in Dead Space 2) and if it included a manual it wouldn't cover what gameplay mechanics have been changed since the earlier games.

Have you opened a video game manual recently? They never go into remotely that depth.

We're really not missing anything, if you're going to be offended by anything, it should be the contents on the disc that's included.

I'm a big fan of manuals, and have always looked through them before playing the game. No matter when it was made - some are helpful, some useless. Sometimes even necessary.
I think it's appropriate if games now want to decide if they want to include a manual, and should do it based on game complexity.
Paper manufacturing creates huge amounts of toxic waste! Bleaching paper is one of the worst things we do. Even recycling is pretty nasty. And well, we kinda need to grow some more trees first.
So, mixed reaction from me. But, I have switched to mostly digital when it comes to books anyways. And, my ereader has neat stuff on it like Prometheus' Full Extent of the Jam guide.
I've been reading a ton of comics on a tablet as well lately.

That's also my point. No printed manual? Fine. That electronic manual they put online? Can easily fit in the game as well. They have even less of an excuse to make crappy manuals since they are saving money by not printing it on paper. Metal Gear Solid 4's manual had enough info on both printed and on-disc version without having to turn the affair into a Working Designs-style full-color embossed booklet, IIRC. But hey, what can one expect from a company that charges the same price for the downloadable versions of its games at it does for the boxed retail versions?
