lol. I really can't believe someone wrote this earnestly. Do you have any idea exactly whose program they got with? Why they got with it? Exactly how they "dominated" for decades, and why they're not dominating now? Their whole economy and culture was built on a house of cards and they're in some deep shit now. Ask literally anyone who has spent any amount of time here for more than a family vacation and they'll tell you the same. Seriously man, read some history and talk to some Chinese, Koreans, or Philippinos about this "Japanese ambition".
Edmond Dantes wrote: I think a lot of the Japan-haters only know Anime and Manga. That's not Japan. Try reading books like The Hagakure, the Book of Five Rings, or any actual cultural or historical work.
Advice to you is stop reading books and try living here for almost a decade. The books you've mentioned have almost zero influence on modern Japanese, and I doubt that most have even heard of more than one or two, let alone read any of them.

Hahahaha wow. The same people who said modern animes are shit because of the lack of tentacle rapes, are now criticizing others as sexist and perverted. The level of hypocrisy in these Japan-bashing threads is just astonishing.

The only way not to lose is not to play...

Aw fuck, now I posted in this thread. Please, bring more pix of underage children in panty-poses or more talk about tentacle-rape so we can finally get over with the lock...

Btw, as I have little to no actual experience with the current japanase culture (as: experiencing it firsthand), the different facets of the japanese population or the actual social problems in japan, I refrain from having an opinion on this topic.

trap15 to the thread-locking rescue. KAI, start posting traps, and I'll post inane pictures that are just barely relevant to the thread.

Well, now you know better for next time.

At least you got "Reiko Azechi is a cute" from a forEverAloner this time; next time... I shudder to think what we'll get next time.

I'm an inferior unthinking white man. I can't help what I am.

Give me a moment to come up with more B.S. copout logic that invalidates everything I've said before.

That would be quite a feat. After the comment about Japanese practicality I was expecting GaijinPunch to turn up and crucify you, but he must be having one of his nice days.

Edit: At least you didn't say anything as idiotic as 'Japan bashing' though.

I recall reading it a long time ago and being horrified at how willing samurais were to kill each other and themselves over the most mundane things. They have no respect for life.

That one chapter about a samurai killing a child in front of its mother - because the child stepped on his foot - and all the shit that happens afterwards was just ridiculous. I felt like burning the book after reading that.

I don't remember that chapter, although the book as a whole is pretty brutal.

That's kind of what I admire about it, actually--there's none of that wishy-washy feel-good shit that's so popular nowadays despite being empty, shallow and lacking any sort of practical application. Instead Hagakure is just stories, sayings and lessons that are straightforward, to the point, and won't coddle the reader. Back then, coddling equaled dying, and to an extent I kinda wish that hadn't changed. I get tired of people who had life too easy and so they go through completely clueless, and yet somehow still manage to get out ahead or, worse, ascend to positions of leadership.

... But that's neither here nor there.

Have you never read western medieval and early modern literature? Just to mention something top quality, have you ever read Don Quixote de la Mancha?

I haven't gotten around to that one yet, but there are some classics I love--particularly Alexander Dumas' D'Artagnan saga.
