Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
Hi Guys,
I have done a lot of reading on candy cabs with jamma interfaces using the viletim and uvc adapters but my problem is slightly different in that i have a stripped namco red exelena with a wells gardner D9200 15/24/31khz monitor.
What is the best way to hook up my Xbox 360 and PS3 to play HD-Remix and SF4 with this monitor @ 15Khz?
Cheers

Extron Super Emotia (480p to 240p), I'm looking for one

Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
you can still use the uvc with it. but i also vote for extron emotia.

SF4 in 15k? Are you sure you don't mean 31k?
Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
I agree, with a tri-sync monitor in place, the best way to play native hi-res games like SF4 is a direct 31khz connection. And with the going prices of UVC or Emotia units, I would even say that low-res 360 titles like Futari are better played this way. Maybe with a SLG added in between for scanlines.
Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
if it is 31kHz (VGA) you want, then the xbox is easiest. Just get the official VGA cable.
For the PS3, you can use an HDFury HDMI to VGA converter. Alternatively the PS3 can output Sync on Green VGA, that can be converted to plain VGA with an Extron RGB processor. The third route would be to use a component to VGA transcoder.

I have the official 360 cable and it works well, but i was of the understanding that it looks better with natural scan-lines at 15k?
Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
The two games you mentioned are rendered or drawn at a higher resolution (especially SF4, it's 3D). Hyper Fighting Online might be a better choice, but i'm not sure what kind of display modes it has.voona wrote:I have the official 360 cable and it works well, but i was of the understanding that it looks better with natural scan-lines at 15k?
But if you insist, you will need the extra hardware, as neither of these consoles can output 240p. But I'd go with a fake scanline generator, unless that monitor can do low res really well, which most tri-syncs cannot.

+1 to the SLG recommendation. I use one with my X360 in my Blast City at home, and it looks gorgeous. Way cheaper than buying a scaler/scan converter, too. Plus it works double duty when I'm away from my cab-- I can emulate scanlines even on a PC monitor, whereas that would be impossible at 15khz due to the completely different display technology.
If you want a recommendation, I use a T-SLG I bought from from Toodles at the SRK forums. It works great and doesn't cost much, and will ship quickly without customs fees if you're in the US.
Also, isn't SF4 16:9 natively? Wouldn't playing it on an SD monitor distort the aspect ratio, or does it offer letterboxing options that I'm not aware of?

SF4 plays in full screen a bit zoomed out in 4:3, so it doesn't alter anything about the playability at all.Softdrink 117 wrote:+1 to the SLG recommendation. Hrmm, taking this all onboard
Anyone else have any comments.
Looks like this guy has done it?

Looks like you can modify a 360 cable to ouput 15khz ?
I have also just taken purchase of a Astro City cabinet with full jamma harness.
Is viletims adapter still the way to go?

every 360 already outputs 15khz RGBs. Official Scart cables were available. You just need a sync stripper (internally or externally) to make it compatible to Arcade CRTs. Picture remains 480i through. 480p through VGA is the better choice if you got a tri-sync CRT.Looks like you can modify a 360 cable to ouput 15khz ?

Is this the same for things like third strike on xbox360? Basically its not going to be pixel perfect because its scaled to 480i and interlaced ?Fudoh wrote:every 360 already outputs 15khz RGBs. I thought the original SF4 cabinets in Japan were low res 15Khz obviously im wrong about that?
Is this the same for the PS3?

Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
IIRC, SF4 was released as an HD game on HD cabs, like the Vewlix and Noir series of cabinets. It was definitely designed as a highres fighter from the beginning. Apparently it has great support for 4:3 (thanks for the clarification drunkninja), but the game's normal aspect ratio is 16:9.voona wrote: Is this the same for things like third strike on xbox360? Third Strike, on the other hand, was originally released as a lo-res game on CPS3 hardware (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It is definitely designed to run on a lo-res cab, and would probably look awesome on an arcade monitor.
As far as resolution goes, the main reason people are recommending VGA at 31kHz is because the 31kHz performance of most multisync monitors is superior to the performance at 15kHz. Given the ability of your monitor to accept 31kHz, it makes more sense and will probably have somewhat nicer geometry/color/etc. to simply use the 31kHz VGA signal directly.
The only real difference between the 360 and PS3 as far as the games you mentioned goes is that the PS3 is somewhat harder to get an RGB signal from, and thus will be more troublesome to hook up to a lo-res cabinet. Both will work, and both will play well, but you have more options with the 360.
Re: Xbox 360 / PS3 To Multi-Sync Arcade Cabinet
They are the same when it comes to low res RGB. Their SCART cables both carry 480i RGB. The 360 is easier for higher res RGB (VGA).Softdrink 117 wrote: The only real difference between the 360 and PS3 as far as the games you mentioned goes is that the PS3 is somewhat harder to get an RGB signal from, and thus will be more troublesome to hook up to a lo-res cabinet.
