Fire and Forget

Post by BareKnuckleRoo »

No idea where to post this, but since the original website hosting it is defunct, here's a copy of Fire and Forget, a caravan shmup/rhythm hybrid game that was made to promote The MOST's song of the same name (unfortunate band name if you're looking for them in a search engine!). It's got a really neat visual style to it, and it's pretty fun for the occasional playthrough, even if it's very unusual. I've no idea if The MOST still exist as a band outside of their MySpace page, but whatever.

Was pretty pleased with my high score of 253,190, got that a while ago. probably had a million deaths so 300k+ should be possible

I tried to run the game but all I get is this white screen:

Did you run into the same problem, and if so, how did you fix it? There doesn't seem to be any log files anywhere either...

Thanks in advance!

I've only tried running it on machines running Windows XP. You obviously need Java installed to play it, but you could also try running it in compatibility mode I guess? What OS are you running?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I've got JDK 6 update 39 installed and JAVA_HOME points to the correct directory.

I tried running the .exe file in compability mode with Windows XP (Service Pack 2) but I got the same result. Is it supposed to switch to fullscreen when you run the .exe? If so, which screen resolution are you using? Also, thanks for the help!

I'm not sure if this helps but Java is at something like 7 update 12 now.

It appears to force the game to an 800x600 window with no way to resize or fullscreen it. It's not really the greatest game ever so you're not missing much if you can't get it working. Lemme play around with this on a Win 7 machine, gotta go install it on there first.

Edit: Just tried this on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. I assume it's got the latest version of Java, but it ran just fine upon opening it without any compatibility fiddling. Sorry. :(

Thanks guys! I just managed to get it to work :D I downloaded the 32-bit version of JRE 6 update 39 and pointed JAVA_HOME to that instead and it worked! It seems like the game can only run on the 32-bit JVM.
