Cleared Mushihime Sama Maniac mode!
During the summer I played quite a bit of the game and had totally given up on ever 1CCing it.
There aren't many feelings better than the one I have right now :D

Got the Ketsui (1-loop) crappy score clear today (77M). It's an okay watch, I comment as I play. I make it with 1 life left.

A lot left to be desired with this game. Heh.

I think I finally figured out the one link I've never been able to get in the beginning of DOJBL stage 2. It's not much but I feel pretty good about it personally! Unfortunately it means there are only hard chains left to learn :P

Nice!

I'm finally getting to the point where I can reliably full-chain stage 2 myself (albeit in white label), so I totally know how you feel. My biggest hurdle right now is the clear; I'm gradually refining my stage 4 and 5 play, but full chains won't be a priority until I know I can finish the game. :s

This is an all purpose thread for achievements right?

After 2 monthes of play, I managed to 1cc Gradius 2 ARC on Very Hard.

That last walker battle is fucking insane.

I do! I can either post it up here or PM it once I get home tonight. I was thinking of sorting out capturing so I could just toss stuff on youtube whenever.

I don't know how much an accomplishment this is, ha, but I got a 1CC in the Beginner Course in Syvalion!

Kind of a lousy run though >.>

If I ever get the chance to choose a STG of the Month I might pick this and relish the hand-wringing.

As requested, here's my PCB Lunatic replay.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36787962/deca% ... th7_06.rpy

As I said, it's far from my best performance. A shameful survival run  At my best I'm fairly certain I've perfected through Alice...I definitely know I've at least perfected Chen. I know I can cap a few of Yuyukos cards without too much trouble...disappointed I screwed up the first one. Totally needless deaths on the survival due to nerves.

Youmu still wrecks me and I have constant unforced misses on the Prismrivers :(

Good shmupping day: finally cleared Garegga, and got the 2P Bakraid Normal clear as well. ;) Now to try Batrider Normal 2P...

That leaves Mahou Daisakusen, Shippu Mahou, Soukyuugurentai, and Brave Blade left to try. Probably won't do Shippu though... I don't like it much. Is Brave Blade really that bad?

Ha ha, and to add to this tremendous accomplishment, I managed to 1CC the Advance course, as well.

I still am not 100% sure how the game determines the levels or weapons granted, though. The final level was super sweet with three silverhawks tailing behind me, annihilating everything that moved.

This game is pretty darn fun.

1cc'd the shit out of Espgaluda after what has to be the least consistent time practicing it in the history of ever.

I think I played it like... one or two times a year for the last two years?

^ Thanks to the above poster's input I went to the arcade and forced a quick n' dirty Strong/Bomb clear on Daifukkatsu 1.5. No score to speak of, I'd prefer to get into that using Power type... but the arcade cab only has three freaking buttons.

That's REALLY impressive. I always wondered if it was possible to get to a level of skill where you could just 1cc a game out of nowhere without having touched or practiced it for ages.

Congrats.

I did play about three credits today before getting that 1cc, and I had to ask in another thread how to get the extend item in stage 3. But yeah, it didn't take me much practice at all.

I did actually clear ESPGaluda with my very first credit ever. Sold the game the next day, not my cup of tea.

Rather than to brag about it, I'd more like to say, that your skill naturally transfers from one game to another.

FINALLY!

First clear and I made it into the loop. Got immediately killed at the 2-1 turret, as I pretty much expected to. I was probably actually shaking from the clear

Still, as someone who usually accomplishes 1cc or no miss runs through pattern memorization and sheer stubborn determination, a BLIND 1cc is really really impressive to me. Really gives me faith in the skill ceiling of the genre as a whole.

CONGRATS TO YOU TOO DECA. DOJ IS THE BEST.

Yeah, when you get to a certain level, you can understand the pov of people like Gus, belligerence notwithstanding, who talk about the cheapness of a 1cc. I'm not quite there yet myself, but as the clear time for games becomes shorter and shorter, you really do see how readily basic skills transfer over. Its neat feeling like your brain is more used to tracking multiple visual trajectories too, and I think over time players develop a mental/visual lexicon of familiar bullet patterns.

With some proper training modes, I do believe these skills could be imparted more quickly to new players. But I also think very minute (but significant) changes in reaction time, and the muscle memory that goes along with it, really takes some time to sink in.

You know, I have this friend who always beats me in fighting game we play despite not practicing them any more then I do.

My personal theory is that it's because he plays Mushihimesama Futari 24/7, and that his execution and reflexes are just REALLY good because of it.

For my own reference, may I ask how many hours you put into the clear - I seem to remember you tackling this quite a while back?

No matter how hard I try, I can't get into the ddp chain system. I like the Guwange chain system. Maybe I just like floods of coins on the screen to confirm I'm on a roll, or maybe it's because I feel Im more in control of the game and the score in other forms of scoring systems. Does scoring get a lot more interesting after the 1cc?

Unfortunately I'm going to have trouble answering that...I did start working on DOJBL quite some time ago but it was pretty on and off, and spread across various emulators on various computers...I can see how much time I have logged in this most recent bout when I get home tonight and attempt to extrapolate from there haha

Also I spent some time learning chains, playing pure survival may have got me the clear quite a bit quicker, hard to say for sure.

Casualcoder: I used to really dislike DDP chaining until I started getting a handle on it. It's really satisfying when it starts to come together just because of the dramatically faster rate at which the score increases as you go. I find it better in DOJBL specifically because the hypers can take a little bit of the stress off in particularly touchy areas. The nice thing about DOJ is that it's still very fun to play for survival if you decide you don't have any interest in scoring!

As far as scoring post clearing, it's certainly going to make it easier to work on specific areas and hammer out chains for the other stages. I was getting really antsy about that clear, just felt like I had way too much time into the game to not have beaten the first loop at least once you know?

Edit: 7.5 hours logged in my current emulator, for whatever that's worth.

I JUST 1CC'D MUSHIFUTARI ON MANIAC WITH NORMAL RECO

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

This run was a nice change of pace because I actually got the second score extend before stage 5, which has never happened before. Fuck me, right? I had exactly one death before Larsa, so I basically got to her with a certifiable fuckton of resources. And I said to her thusly, "Come at me, bro!"

And then I beat the shit out of her and won. Those eight hours of practice on Sunday really paid off.

INFO!

I did the same as you, I would play on and off and then leave it for several months. When I finally knuckled down to it and left it in the cab for about a month (2-3 credits a day) it came pretty quick. I'd say cumulatively 6-7 dedicated hours sounds about right to me.
I'm convinced by actually learning to chain it becomes easier to clear, b/c it gives you the extends you need to see it through (which I haven't done with a life remaining as of yet) and helps to define a path through the stages.
