sites for shmup walkthrough(s)?
Because I don't think I've seen such topic before, and because it's hard to find sites that contains actual information, post links to sites that contains walkthough/FAQ/combo guide here.

You should check out this site! It has lots of cool walkthroughs. I am now able to walk through several of my favorite games.
I suppose you never realized this forum has more than one section, or perhaps you really need bad a prescription for glasses, i'd say. Maybe you don't know the meaning of word "strategy"...?

A lot of folks probably don't notice that the site has forums like Strategy, Hardware, and the like... since the main www.shmups.com frontpage only links directly to Shmups Chat, Hi Scores, and Trading Station. It should probably link directly to the Index. Or its welcome message could be updated to mention the Strategy and other forums.

A shmup walkthrough:
Stage 1:
Shortly after launch, you will see some enemies in front of you. shoot them. they may fire bullets at you, dodge them. If anything colorful appears with a "P" on it, pick it up. Also pick up anything that looks like a medal. If anything looks like bubblegum, dodge it. If anything fires pink bullets at you, dodge the bullets and shoot it.
After a while you will reach the boss. Dodge the bullets it fires, and shoot it. If you keep doing this for long enough it will explode.
Stages 2-8:
See stage 1.

If you ask me, I wouldn't think its obvious that shmup strategy is kept in a forum especially when the reviews are on the main site. I've made this comment before, but with nobody at the helm of shmups.com we need to open this baby up to the wiki, pull the strategy and other important info out of the forum, and post thost months worth of backlog reviews.Thunder Force wrote:A lot of folks probably don't notice that the site has forums like Strategy, Hardware, and the like... since the main www.shmups.com frontpage only links directly to Shmups Chat, Hi Scores, and Trading Station. Dunno, i quickly recognize the directories (i.e. i immediately see forum index/shmups chat). I think it doesn't take too much effort to take a look around. Beside that, if i'm not sure about a site containing a given section, i usually ask first to check if i'm missing something. Some recognition of the time wasted to share knowledge goes a long way, thanks.

If a certain question comes up a lot and regulars are tired of it a witty answer I can understand. A sarcastic answer; permitted. Even responding to a flame in a similar way I can understand, eventhough I would not agree.
But this is just downright nasty.
If you feel like venting your personal frustrations in the form of an immature "judge of stupid questions" why not try your co-workers. Hell, try your family members; see how they'll like it.
Who knows what kind of info that guy wants to share (both ways) with us. Posts like these will give a bad impression to newcomers. I can't say I blame him if he doesn't come back.
Check the bold parts in the second quote. People are not like the one and only person you know (i.e. yourself). All are different and respond in different ways in similar situations.
I guess it can be.Randorama wrote:The goal is surely trivial (we're not saving the world while shmupping), but it can be a good character-building exercise.

I admit that i didn't (error!) thank the user for the link, but again: before i ask for something (which is, in this case), pretty easy to find, i check. Also, 37 posts, in my book, is not a "newcomer". Of course, i can claim that if someone is at his first post here and says "ehi where to find guides i can't see any!", i would use a different tone. In fact, you say:Samudra wrote:

Now, if you want to argue just for fun, fine, but it would be nice if you would take in consideration some of the things i've mentioned above. If you want to systematically defend someone who asks for informations that are easily obtainable with two clicks and a browse, i won't respond. I do understand that it is easy to label as childish and immature everything which doesn't suit to your personal view of the world, but the basic case is, my pretty acid comment is based on a post that wouldn't have been here, in the first place, with some basic browsing. Again, some more cooperation goes a long way.

You must be in the netherlands right now.
I can tell.
Fellow shmups members, never visit my country. There's nothing there except for coffeeshops, where you can legally buy marijuana. And a pretty big red light district with over priced (some nice) chicks.
What else.
Nothing more, but drama.
Yet I welcome anyone who dares to come despite my negative advise.

Rando, how about that Dutch Schmeet?

I meant future info, but yeah why not thank him; indirectly even. Everything is better than stabbing him in the chest.Randorama wrote:I admit that i didn't (error!) thank the user for the link,Samudra wrote:

Anyone who doesn't know about the other forum sections is newcomer enough. As hanging around long enough you will, incidentially even, get to know about the other parts.Randorama wrote:Also, 37 posts, in my book, is not a "newcomer". You actually believe that nonsense?Randorama wrote:.... I do understand that it is easy to label as childish and immature everything which doesn't suit to your personal view of the world,
If basic browsing means going to a forum from the frontpage than no.Randorama wrote:but the basic case is, my pretty acid comment is based on a post that wouldn't have been here, in the first place, with some basic browsing. Again, some more cooperation goes a long way.

Well, for instance asking things instead of giving orders would be a step ahead, little barbarian. The only posts that need to be edited for politeness are yours.
It's on the upper corner of this page, for instance. I don't think it's difficult to notice. Not so easy:
Are you done with the blatant trolling? You actually believe that nonsense?
Oh, again, you're defending a position because you find too difficult to browse a page in its entirety, and have this surreal pretense to be completely right (a true symbol of intellectual maturity, i'd add). Youve done worse in other posts, so i wonder how long will you go on. It's "then", by the way.If basic browsing means going to a forum from the frontpage than no.

I would like to see screen captures of various stages, as to have a little better understanding of enemy placements for unfamiliar games.
the Treatises(?) are good for advanced techniques, but I wouldn't consider them walthroughs. I often have more problems with stages then bosses, and a quick dirty guide to what enemies fire aimed patterns for bullet hoarding, and basic patterns (cave) would be helpful!
I hope I came across clear!
EDIT: Superplays don't seem to useful, as there is often to much going on, and if you can't chain as well as some crazy ninja, it doesn't help anyway!

I see nobody mentions anything about Strikers 1945 III/1999 at all in the strategy section. So.... I win? >_>Randorama wrote:I suppose you never realized this forum has more than one section, or perhaps you really need bad a prescription for glasses, i'd say. I thought one of the forum members on here created those videos for S1999.infested_ysy wrote:I see nobody mentions anything about Strikers 1945 III/1999 at all in the strategy section. So.... BER had created a walkthrough for the loop 2 water stage on the old forums, but I don't think it made the crash.
If you are thinking about the S1999 tech bonus replays, then you are correct. Our very own Alluro created those replays. His site is http://rf-emporium.net and his walkthrough stuff is still available from there.landshark wrote:I thought one of the forum members on here created those videos for S1999.
EDIT: Oh yeah, here's another site for shmup walkthroughs. ^_-
