Re: Is this stick a good deal for shmups
It's a beginners stick with all hori stock parts. It has a rather large throw and the buttons feel a bit mushy. And it's not easy to mod. There is soldering involved if you want to swap the buttons and also you cannot easily swap the joystick without doing some modification to the stick and the casing.
If possible, go for a madcatz SE stick, which is far easier to mod, or go the long way and look for a madcatz TE stick, or a hori real arcade pro. Those two latter come with stock sanwa (or seimitsu) sticks and buttons with quick connects.
Personnaly, I wouldn't buy the EX2 anymore, especially if you want to keep playing with sticks.

everything drachenherz said above, plus the ex2 pcbs are notorious for dying. mine lasted about 6 months. and they are indeed a pita to mod (much more annoying than the mayflash).

That's the Mad Catz TE model previously mentioned -- yes it's an excellent stick.

Yeah, that's the TE stick. If you can buy it, go for it. All sanwa stock parts and easily moddable if you want to. Both the PS3 and the X360 version can also be used on the pc, but keep in mind that you cannot use a PS3 version on the Xbox and vice versa.Aleksei wrote:Thanks,

The other good one to keep in mind is the Mad Catz Brawl Stick

The stock parts are not Japanese, but are actually pretty decent for the price, and are super simple to replace.
And DAT ARTWORK

Yeah swap that artwork! So cheap to get it printed at FedEx Office, worst part is removing the old art.
Having completely custom art on your stick is pretty boss. My Cthulhu and JLF-modded BrawlStick is easily my favourite joystick, though now I need to get another one with the original electronics inside for my 360.
