My new year's resolution
So I thought I'd formally announce this, though you all might've seen the link to it in my sig already.
This year, I've decided to try and curb my game collecting, and instead focus on clearing my backlog. To do this, I've started a new blog to record what games I've beaten.
I hold myself to one rule: "It only counts if I can prove it," so each entry has either pictures or videos.
For Shmups, I have a special rule that I can't use more than three continues. This is because a lot of shmups allow you to credit-spam your way through the game with zero effort (Eco Fighters, anyone?) and I feel that's... well, basically that's no different than turning on a cheat code.
Even though this has been in my sig for a week, I'm announcing it formally NOW because my most recent entry is for an actual shmup: Dragon Spirit for the NES (note: the final video might not work yet). This is a 1cc run (and IIRC, a deathless run as well).
Note: When I played, I didn't realize you could shoot the third bosses bullets, which is why I kept dodging them. That guy is part of the reason I'm interested in Bullet Hell now.
Anyway, enjoy.

Add this rule too:
Save States = cheating.

All these games are being played on real hardware (recording with a DVD recorder).KAI wrote:Add this rule too:

But yes, I do have a "no savestates, or cheating of any kind" rule.

None square pixels? For shame, sir, for shame.
Re: My new year's resolution
Back when I got into shmups I did a similar thing - I had never 1cc'd a game before and I was wondering if I could do such a thing. I picked Gradius V and told myself I wouldn't give up until I cleared the first loop. Managed to pull it off after about a month of play.
The 1cc gave me the confidence needed to say "I can do it" and proceeded to clear other games. The rest is history.
Looking forward to see your progress.
