DOJ on PGM2
Re: DOJ on PGM2
It's just DOJ with an easy mode, nothing fancy and not worth more than 400 USD or whatever a DOJ PCB currently costs.
The future is 2D
Re: DOJ on PGM2
If the prices work anything like previous PGM2 titles, used values will be considerable lower than an older used DOJ PCB - don't forget we're comparing used to brand new kit here. I'm going to buy one I think.

Not sure whether you are a collector or more a gamer. The resell value will drop like a stone over time...if you are a collector it doesn't matter though.
For 700 USD you could get Fast Striker MVS LE, it's a better investment in both terms fun (for non masochistic people) and long time resale value
I will wait for DOJ PGM2 until it hits 250-300USD and probably replace my PCB with it...

I'd love to play this. I like DOJ a lot, but tend to stick to the 360 EX mode because it's just more fun to play.
A black label style mode that's easier and without the hyper madness of EX mode would be something I'd wanna play.

Where can you buy this?
I might buy it for Xmas for the 17.5% VAT. Always wanted a DOJ.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: DOJ on PGM2
It looks like there are single boards of PGM2 games too, I didn't knew that before.

Has anyone here bought one of these carts or kits?
Re: DOJ on PGM2
Just a heads up, Shanghai shmup enthusiast x91 mentioned in a separate thread that the PGM2 ver of WL has a couple of score impacting bugs. I only enquired further because it's the DOJ at my local arcade, currently. They aren't bugs that will affect anyone except the more esteemed scorer, but I thought it was interesting info nonetheless, especially since I assumed its original mode was a carbon port.

Mine's been 'awaiting customs charging' since the 19th... Sigh. We can get a PCB half way across the world in under 24 hours, but we can't clear UK customs inside of a week.

Some YouTube videos mention the sound looping isn't quite right on the PGM2 version either, I'm guessing they've just got samples of the original music and store them as long tracks using the MP3-like compression (unlike the sequenced original) because the sound chip on PGM2 is the same as on the CaveSH3 board, and more suited to that.
Re: DOJ on PGM2
It's actually not the exact same one (it's the YMZ774-S, CV1000 is YMZ770-S), but it's the same family and pretty much the same chip (dunno what the differences are, as I can't find a YMZ774 datasheet anywhere).IseeThings wrote:because the sound chip on PGM2 is the same as on the CaveSH3 board, and more suited to that.
It's pretty likely that they did as you say though, and just recorded the music and looped the compressed stream. Ouch, my sound quality hurts

yeah, I was dumbing it down a bit, the part numbers are so close it's highly likely they're related tho, maybe the PGM2 one is actual MPEG instead of 'everything we can do to implement MPEG while skirting around all the MPEG patents'trap15 wrote:It's actually not the exact same one (it's the YMZ774-S, CV1000 is YMZ770-S), but it's the same family and pretty much the same chip (dunno what the differences are, as I can't find a YMZ774 datasheet anywhere).IseeThings wrote:because the sound chip on PGM2 is the same as on the CaveSH3 board, and more suited to that.

of course, there are dumps of PGM2 sound roms, somebody could try decoding them

Re: DOJ on PGM2
I've picked up a copy of the PGM2 release of DDP DOJT. One gripe - it doesn't seem to save settings. On original PGM hardware, there was a battery there to save soft dip settings, no? I wonder if it's the same on this, though I haven't bothered to open it up yet.
As you guys have predicted (and as System11 warned me before I purchased this) the sound is a bit muddier than the original DOJ. Also, it seems the video output is darker than the original, or most games for that matter, though I don't have a standard DOJ here to compare to. Overall, though, still not a bad way to play a great game.

That's a shame, I've actually got a second one coming (it's a long and annoying story and it'll be sold on at cost) and I was hoping to sell it to youMmSadda wrote:I've picked up a copy of the PGM2 release of DDP DOJT. I had the same problem with nothing being saved, I complained about it and was told they always change the batteries. Maybe they're using shit ones or something, or changed it a year ago (PGM2 batteries don't last long at all), because I put a new battery in mine and everything saves as it should now.
I won't be buying from Legend again, they used to be great but I've had unacceptable service this time around.

Re: DOJ on PGM2
Ah, that's unfortunate... if I'd known you were going to sell off the one, I would've been all over it. Legend didn't do as well this time around as they did when I first dealt with them; it took over a week for them to ship; luckily the game cleared customs with no trouble at all.system11 wrote:

There's no way they changed the battery, unless they're using NOS batteries with an expiration date of 2006 or something.... Am I right in thinking tha tthe battery on this works the same as on a PGM1 (other than DOJ BL) in the sense that it won't suicide if the battery is removed or anything like that, the battery is just to save settings?

Re: DOJ on PGM2
Yeah, seems to be the case. After all - the one in my Oriental Legend 2 was flat for over a year at one point. The batteries are normal 2032 coin cells, they're in a holder so no soldering required, live in the cart itself.

So how is the new "easy" mode? Is it one or two loops? How easy is it? I still haven't seen any videos.

I still can't beat it on easy mode, although I get a lot further. I do prefer it to the original and the sound is both better and worse. The PCB sounds clearer slightly, but it also suffers from some ugly clipping/distortion on the voice parts of the music which the PGM2 one doesn't suffer from.

Re: DOJ on PGM2
It's a good bit easier than the original mode. I cleared it the day I got it but I had previously played a lot of the original and black. There is a small problem with the sound though where it starts loops in wrong places in certain parts. If you've never played the originals much you might not notice it. Just after 8:30 in the video is an example. I'd guess the easy mode has a 2nd loop if you pass the requirements.

And this game is one that definitely needs an easy mode, WL hates me.
hopefully it gets cheap enough that my local arcade would be receptive to getting it
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Sounds like loop-point-using sounds put into a non-loop-point-using system. I hear lots of clipping noise in the video too. Quite odd.
Re: DOJ on PGM2
The clipping is an artifact of the video, it's something the PGM2 one doesn't suffer from but the original PCB does. The akward loops are probably because it uses streamed audio instead of sequenced, the whole tunes are in there but it can't loop them as gracefully. I particularly like the blue mobo+cart, but I bought this for the easy mode when it comes down to it (and price).BPzeBanshee wrote:Sounds like loop-point-using sounds put into a non-loop-point-using system. Brand new in the box they cost $480 plus whatever shipping and taxes you get stung with.
Removed posts related to hacked goods, selling those is why HD got banned from here. The PGM2 one which is a legit product, saves scores for easy and original modes.

Sorry to dig this one up, but was there any way to get BL working on this? Or is this only Vanilla + Easymode?
I saw 1 socketed 32mb flash (dip adapter) so I thought maybe it was possible to put BL on this thing
Reason for asking is that I have been offered to buy one, but I wonder if I should wait for a regular DOJ pcb to pop up instead?
