Xyanide: 2006 shmup release for Xbox
I certainly hope not, but the price listed is 39 Euros; I haven't seen a US price for this game at all.

AAA mentioned a price in Euros in this thread:
http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic ... ht=xyanide
There's also a link to an IGN announcement about this game coming out this fall, but so far, I don't see a price in US$, or even a US release date. That has me worried.

If Xyanide doesn't come to XBox here in the states, I might seriously consider getting rid of my Xbox. I just don't play it anymore, and it wouldn't be so hard to pick up Metal Slug III for the Jap. PS2. When I used to play racing games, the Xbox was a lot of fun. But I really only play shmups anymore, and I don't own a single shmup for the Xbox. Though I do like Geometry Wars, I really never play it. And Panzer Dragoon Orta was cool the first time I played through it, but I don't see myself going back to it. The Street Fighter anniversary pack is really nice, but I could always get that on PS2. I can't think of anything else I care about on the Xbox. There are Halo 1 and 2, of course, but I get motion sickness playing them.

Yeah, IGN lists it as "TBA 2005". I did email Playlogic today about all this, so we'll see what they say about it.BulletMagnet wrote:It's not exactly the most reliable of sources, but GameFAQs has release dates (though all "TBA" at this point) listed as "NA" for all versions of Xyanide excpet the GBA version, which is "EU."
I love my XBOX; it's the 360 that I don't want. I don't want to shell out for an import one, and the American one, at least for the next few months, will have a lot of the same games as the XBOX. Sure, the graphics will look better on the 360 versions, but I could care less. After Burner 360 does look awesome, but not $400 awesome! And that's the only XBOX 360 exclusive that I'm even interested in right now.

It's planned for a release in the US with no date set. Or at least that's what was implied by the fact sheet I got. Unless a US PR company is in the habit of sending European games to US reviewers.
I recently recieved a playable build of Xyanide, complete with boxart (European with their version of the ESRB on the cover) and a photocopied version of the manual. They should really change the title on the cover though. It's pretty much impossible to read.
As for the game itself, I'll have detailed impressions going up soon on got-next.com (site I write for) but overall it's a lot of fun. Robotron style controls, mutliple special attacks, fast switching between shot types... gameplay is pretty complicated, but comes together really well. I'm a shmup fan (never miss a CAVE release) though don't expect me to be good at them. If you have any questions, feel free. Couldn't try any live features though as I was playing on a modded Xbox.
And if it does only come out in Europe, you can always softmod your Xbox to play it, which is easier than you think possible, but probably something I shouldn't be talking about here.

In case you're curious, here's my write up on Xyanide:

(though there's a little mistake in the side bar, it's 1-2 players)

Well, if this game doesn't make it to the States; it is planned for a PSP release, and that system is region-free. The graphics in the PSP port will probably be pretty close to the XBOX port, as well.

Gamespot have posted three new one-minute pieces of Xyanide video showing off the gameplay and detailed visuals
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/xyanide/media.html
Vibe and pacing is very reminiscent of R-Type Final.

I guess my worry about this stems from the fact that Playlogic is based in the Netherlands, and since they're publishing the game itself, how would they get it over here, without it being prohibitively expensive??

Looks like this is going to be one fantastic Shmup. The battle scenes are reminiscent of that old arcade battle between Max and Miriya from that old Robotech episode. The 0nly problem is analog control means that it won't be possible to hook up the game to my candy cab to play with the rest of my Shmups
. Oh well, thank god for my Plasma HDTV.

Looks like the illegitimate love child of Robotron (by way of Geometry Wars) and R-Type Final. I'm not exactly sure how well it'll work. From the videos, very few enemies attack at once and they don't fire very much. It also doesn't look like there's a lot of tight environment navigation. The control scheme seems interesting, but it looks like it'll make the game too easy. Hopefully the boss battles (which are hinted at but not shown in the videos) will provide some level of challenge.

I haven't watched the vids, but he must be playing at the lowest difficulty. Playing at higher defs means more ships and more bullets (though it never gets to the level of CAVE manic, which would be unplayable here). Also the sub and main bosses are more aggressive at the higher difficulties. I haven't unlocked the highest difficulty level yet so I can't say just how tough it will get, though it's harder than it looks since keeping track of ship movement and shot direction at the same time is a bit of a trick. It's very easy to crash if you're not careful.bVork wrote:Looks like the illegitimate love child of Robotron (by way of Geometry Wars) and R-Type Final. I'm not exactly sure how well it'll work. Also like to say that it was pointed out to me by the composer that I neglected to mention the excellent soundtrack that Xyanide comes with, so I've amended my preview a bit. It's pleasantly Rez-like, but matches the game so well that I almost forgot it was there.

Just watched the videos - they left me feeling a bit cold. Like Thunder Force said, very R-Type Finalish in pacing which is BAD, I tell you. Several seconds went by with no enemies on the screen. But I hope Ammadeau is right and the higher difficulty levels will correct this problem.
I'm still a bit confused on what platforms the game's supposed to come out. Is there a PS2 version coming out or not? According to Playlogic's website there is something under the title "Xyanide Resurrection" coming for both PSP and PS2. Mostly same game but different name (like Chaos Field Extended or Shooting Love: Trizeal)? Or is it a remix of sorts (lacking some graphical weewow, perhaps) or an honest sequel?

Well according to IGN, Xyanide is coming out on the PSP- there is no mention of a PS2 port, and they don't mention any change in the title of the game for the PSP. There are some screens, not that great, of the PSP port here:Ghegs wrote:Just watched the videos - they left me feeling a bit cold. The GBA port looks pretty different from the rest, and very cool- gametrailers.com probably still has the official trailer up-but adding to the Xyanide confusion is the fact that IGN says GBA Xyanide is out in Europe, but there's not a single copy on Ebay, unless you just have to order it direct from Playlogic; I dunno.
And that's the main problem with all of the ports of this shmup-there is a severe lack of information. Playlogic NEEDS to update their Xyanide webpage with MORE information-ie, IS this game coming to the US XBOX, and if so, WHEN is it coming out? And WHAT are the release dates for the PSP and GBA ports?? So far, all we know is that they're publishing the game themselves for the XBOX in Europe; other then that, we're pretty much in the dark on all this.

The only time I remember this happening is the start of the first level and whenever there was a path choice. Otherwise they would rush in, sometimes other waves appearing before you were done with the first. They tend to mix smaller and larger ships too which forces you to be constantly changing your shot type. The pacing is closer to the Panzer Dragon series or Rez than anything else.Ghegs wrote:Just watched the videos - they left me feeling a bit cold. For the record, I didn't like R-Type Final myself.

Looks like there's a company other than G.Rev that can do really nifty real-time scrolling. This game's got my attention. The only problem I may forsee is determining when you can be harmed by the environment (such as walls). Seems like Xyanide is going to emphasize a lot of memorization so you'll know when the camera will pan and you don't freak out after the 53rd time seeing it.

You can't be harmed by the enviroment, unless you mean gun emplacements that shoot at you. Usually because of the nature of the game you can't interact with it, it's just a backdrop essentially, and those times you can it just bumps you harmlessly.dai jou bu wrote:Looks like there's a company other than G.Rev that can do really nifty real-time scrolling. Of course, this isn't counting the bosses that are sometimes part of the enviroment and you can certainly interact with in an explosive manner.
There's some memorization involved in knowing the wave patterns and what sort of enemy pops up when, especially when getting shots at the sub-bosses, but it's more of a twitch game really.

It's really weird that this game is getting a PSP port, considering the lack of dual analog sticks on the PSP. I hope they don't resort on PSP to the "fire through the center of the screen" targetting of the cellphone version of Xyanide.dave4shmups wrote:The graphics in the PSP port will probably be pretty close to the XBOX port, as well.

I'm a little confused as to why it would get a PSP release before a confirmed PS2 release...marketingwise, wouldn't you sell more copies of the game with an established home console base of 100 million +? Theres only a fraction of PSP's out there compared to PS2's.Thunder Force wrote:It's really weird that this game is getting a PSP port, considering the lack of dual analog sticks on the PSP.
