Re: STG Weekly #6: Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object
So I heard on stream that Ten Desires is a shit game.
Seems like I really dodged a bullet there, only reason I didn't play it was sheer laziness (and moving slightly away from bullet hell at the time).
I don't think I recall it being said why people don't like it. Can anyone enlighten me?
(I crave all knowledge)

It's not shit, just mediocre. Relatively unchallenging and the final boss doesn't have any interesting attacks. Plus scoring boils down to point-blanking bosses while invunerable. I've played enough of the game that I cleared it no-bomb no-trance on Lunatic, and I assure you there are some fun bosses (especially st. 3 and 4) but stages are just so dull that I don't plan on going back to it any time soon.

Level design and challenge, gotcha. Thanks for answering.

The trance system is also downright awful, notably. It turns the game into a big bombtrancespam-fest and scoring even more so. The challenge isn't much of an issue for me, but the level design and overall pattern design is quite lacking.

TD WR Scoring in a nutshell. Use MMCafe if you don't have nico, you know the drill.
Re: STG Weekly #6: Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object
Could have been interesting if trance was something like Kakusei Zesshikai instead of giving you invulnerability.

So I think we've covered that TD sucks. Now let's talk positively - What did you guys think of the episode? Who watched it? Did it change your view of Touhou?

I definitely enjoyed this episode. It really makes me feel like going back to UFO to try playing it more seriously instead of just for survival. Shin's run overall was very amazing as well. From what you and Naut explained in the video, there was a lot of optimization going on such as the POC pulling up the items before the UFO magnet overrides it and collects all of them instead and even the insanely precise super-grazing on Ichirin. Not only was it interesting to listen to the different techniques pulled off in the run, but it was also a magnificent display of flawless or near-flawless execution of a very well-planned score route.RNGmaster wrote:What did you guys think of the episode?

Re: STG Weekly #6: Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object
It didn't really change my opinion of Touhou, in fact it confirmed my feelings on it. Namely that it's a good, well designed series that's accessible for beginners but fiercely enjoyable for veterans as well.
I did enjoy seeing all the crazy safe spots, and the perfect run of lunatic Byakuren after all that madness was amazing.
I also very much appreciated when (can't remember who) ran down what the best Touhou games to start out with are, mentioning which one are more improvisation focused and which ones are more memorization focused. That's helpful since, though I played all the Touhou games a while back, I did so casually at best and haven't returned to them since. I'll very much use the recommendations I found here when I return.
Also what game will guys be doing next? Can there be voting?

I'll take any suggestions. If you or you know someone who wants to comment as knowledgeable on 'x' game than that's better. Also if you know of any remarkable replays, it would be great if you included that in a suggestion.
Next week's game is up in the air right now.

I'd love to commentate on Strikers 1999 if you guys ever feel like doing that as a Psikyo episode.
There are a bunch of good replays available; for western stuff there's Azinth's 3.13m, and there are also a couple of regular plays of about 3.3-3.4m on YouTube as well as a run fairly close to the WR including double techs (though it's in tate so might need reuploading beforehand).

That'd be cool but I should mention that Plasm0 has been trying to hammer out a 2-ALL in Strikers1945 for STGW. I wouldn't mind too much if we did Psikyo weeks closely to each other, however.

I'd like to see some Taito shooters. I'd say Rayforce, since I'm playing that right now, but the videos have been 90% vertical scrollers, so Darius might be better (also more popular and well known).
Alternatively, a super play of one of the better R-Type games might be interesting.

Somewhat entertaining to see superplay of a game I know nothing about, though at first it still seemed rather confusing to try and figure out what exactly was going on (maybe I was just mesmerized with the patterns). "co-co puffs", "it's like frogger", and several other Aquas quotes had me cracking up. Naut seemed pretty down to earth and sounds like a pretty chill guy, while RNG balanced that out with pure nerdinessWhat did you guys think of the episode? Who watched it? Did it change your view of Touhou?

My view on the series is still jaded, watching this episode just reinforced why I'm not interested in giving them a chance.

Why, exactly? I think that this game played for score is really fun.chempop wrote:My view on the series is still jaded, watching this episode just reinforced why I'm not interested in giving them a chance.

Does anyone like the Strikers games a lot (specifically Strikers 1945) and wants to comment on Plasm0's 2-ALL possibly this weekend or the next?

Requesting s Milestone/Radirgy episode.
Thanks in advance.

As far as Milestone goes, I think Chaos Field would benefit the most from a well qualified commentary. That game has just a ridiculous amount of stuff to learn.

I would like to know why everyone keep praising Chaos Field, the game is terribly easy and broken, for a good reason Milestone took a different direction after it.
