3 Generations of SEGA xxx City.

Should I take that 14" monitor out to make some space to show side decal of the cab ?

I can definitely empathize. My Astro City was a mess when I got it, with Raiden Fighters Jet burned into the screen (special thanks to coinopstore). Even though there are some real scumbags in the arcade community, there are a lot of good people out there too. Hope you can get the monitor sorted out.

From a fellow forum member. Looks great.
CRT has minor blooming on it, maybe a recap will fix it.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago, and have been cleaning and repairing it since. Please excuse the terrible cell phone pic.
Image
Dropped in some new buttons, a Seimitsu LS-58, and built an Xbox360-> JAMMA adapter. In the pic it's running Dodonpachi Dai Fukkatsu Black Label from my NTSC-J 360.

I bought it from BIGTIME over on the neo-geo forums. The monitor is the official replacement, not the original Nanao. I had the opportunity to compare the two side by side at both 15 and 31 kHz, and quite frankly noticed no major differences in picture, let alone any worth another $250.

Tomorrow I head back to college... SADNESS...

Opt2not, I'm not going to lie... extremely ****ing jelly! I want another cab for hori (2L12B) badly. Also, your sticks and buttons look sweet.

Thanks chempop!
I'm a big fan of coloured joystick shafts matching balltops. Some people think it looks too much like a toy, which is what I love!
Makes it looks exactly what it's meant for...playing. :D

Are those LS-40's? I only see them for sale at Akihabara shop, they say less ruggedly built but similar to the LS-32... have you noticed any difference? Aesthetics aside, would you recommend them? Thanks!

(edit)

Oh wait, not I'm seeing these...

http://www.rs2006.co.jp/e/sanwaseimitsu ... ombine.jpg

but yours don't have colored dustwashers like these, so I'm confused...

hahaha, no worries man. In my tate cabinet they're LS-58's, JLF's in the hori cab.

Both are using the Qanba shafts and covers, bought from canadianjoysticks, and I think they sell them at Focus Attack as well. They're meant for JLF's primarily, but they fit the 58's shaft.

I love my LS-58's w/ octo gates. The spring is slightly softer than the 55's, but the base and tight-throw are the same. Makes a really great shmup stick!

edit: Oh yeah, the black dust-covers are just old JLF ones that I had laying around in my parts-stash. I ended up modifying to fit the shaft using a drill bit and "carving" out the middle to widen the hole.

They are! I couldn't stand the sound of the stock speakers. I also replaced the speakers on my Aero, and added a subwoofer:

I know KRK's aren't exactly top tier, but it does strike me as funny using reference monitors on an arcade machine, especially considering the bit-rates most games are pushing audio at. Never had any issues with the speakers in my astro's, mind you I don't usually play with the sound cranked.

Do you have any rattling issues with the sub in the aero? With the bass up, I have a picture of the whole cab vibrating in my mind.

Wow, so many great game rooms and cabs here. This is like therapy for someone who's spent too much time over at a certain other forum. Seriously, there's so many nice cabs, but since Astro City's are my favorite, I'm really jealous of Opt2not and Jason C Slaughter.

Amazing line-up Akraten! All clean, complete with stools, marquee holders and artwork. Great job!
I recently restored/converted a Versus City 1P panel to Astro.

Yeah, the KRK's are definitely not top tier, but some of their deficiencies (i.e. overzealous bass response) actually work out for arcade games. Also, the sub I used for the Aero is a corner loading car sub, so I mounted it outside the machine facing the wall. At least my neighbors will know when I finally 1CC Daifukkatsu!

The speakers are a cool upgrade. The sound is just about the only thing I'm not happy with on my cab, my speakers are pretty blown out. Been thinking about refurbing the stock ones in my E2, but even then, you'd never get close to what you've got going with the monitors.

Opt2not, those NAC's look super clean. Those cabs pop with the fresh speaker piece.

Thank you bros, appreciated! It really makes a big difference, and is probably the easiest thing to make them fresh looking. That and scrubbing out the scuffs with pink solution + magic erasers.
Just don't scrub too much, or you'll ruin the gelcoat finish. :)
